Shannon, "back in the day" would be a time when they'd play a song like Alice's Restaurant without it being Thanksgiving and then if they felt like it they'd play it again. And then they'd play the other side of the album. Then they'd play anything else that this stream of thought brought to mind. Not so much Wolfman Jack as Richard Neer, Jonathon Schwartz, Pete Fornatel, Vin Scelsa and of course, the Nightbird - and lots of others.

ah, radio...when you didnt need a seek/scan button because 'your' station was just that...YOUR station..and you didnt listen to anything else....and you really didnt need a tape deck because the radio was actually 'worth' listening to!

when will they ever learn?

tape deck??? I had a reel-to-reel, and I would tape the shows off the radio i hadda miss cause of stoopid stuff (like school!)
Taped many a live broadcast from the bottom line, and the like... wish I could remember where those tapes are in the house! Wonder if the damn machine still works?
(I remember taping the beatles doin' Two of Us off the TV... talk about low-fidelity!!)

Reel to reel decks bring back fond memories... I have one & used to tape songs off the radio. That was portable music LOL! I taped some Monkees episodes off the tv on audio cassette. Wow, we've come along way since then. I remember when radio was good. Now it's all about rap music & loud noise LOL!

A lot of hours tuned into WNEW FM 102.7...huh Pat? When it was still a radio station worth listening too.....before Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez. Vin Scelsa is still doing his "Idiots Delight" show on Saturday nights now on WFUV 90.7, Pete Fornatel shows up there once in a while too. Richard Neer is doing news and sports and stuff, as is Pat Dawson. So much for local radio!

Yes, it's what our parents' generation said, but it was different from anything before or after. The difference wasn't so much the kind of music as how it was presented. Being a DJ was a real job..they decided what to play..or not. Sometimes they'd read you chapters of books they liked..stuff like that.

Bumper, I think you got off easy. My mother took my 1st copy of "Freewheelin" and broke it over her knee.

that's funny! i remember once a friend of mine gave me this "special import" jimi hendrix album (at least that it how they referred to it at the time) for my birthday...actually i remember seeing the very album in the record store and thinking (first how much i would love to acquire as many jimi hendrix albums as i possibly could) then, like i'm really gonna bye this album in this album cover with all these naked ladies all over it
all in glossy no less...so anyway, seems like the very next day it shows up via my friend, "happy birthday!", and my mom's like, right there, so i'm like, "look mom, a jimi hendrix album...i'm bettin' with this album cover, it may some day be a collector's item!" "mmm-hmmm," she said and she didn't even break it over her knee or anything.
