houston, we have a problem!

dec 2nd is ken's birthday and we have plans to be away for the weekend...

i'm good almost any other night that week. weekends are harder as we usually have plans of some sort unless ken is working.

we are actually on vacation from this sat til the 19th of dec but i can be online on the road..just not the 2nd!

and pamram..to try to 'answer' your query....the book club started when a bunch of wanted to read and discuss books and we decided to try it on line....there isnt really much to 'tell'...we have a difficult choosing books but we have a great time once we iron out the details of which book, what day and whether to meet in eastern, central, or celery time!

glad to see new folks and continued interest....

and rb..those two things you pointed out..the quote you put out here and the stuff about songs being magic...are 2 of the things that struck me as well....i even read the quote you wrote to a friend who was in the room when i was reading who was waiting to read the book next!

i have read #2 and just got # 3 from the library today!!!

maybe we should think about the narnia books after this..who knows? LOL

The only evenings I know I can't be there are 11/28 and 12/16. Great social life, huh? Anyway, I'm flexible (in scheduling, if not in body).

I can be available pretty much any evening for the chat... Rereading #1 now, have #2 & #3 and borrowed #4 from my granddaughter. (She has read the series SIX times now... and is reading Narnia... age 8! The Hobbit is next for her. I think we have a young reader here!) Maybe I should invite her to take part in the discussion... but I think we'll be up past her bedtime!

Movie is out later this week! gotta go see it... from what I can tell, it looks really well done - and they say that they stayed true to the books, but there are one or two surprises. Wonder what they did!!!

I woke up, and thought I was dreaming.? But 'Harry Potter' really was on David Letterman last night! Can't remember the young actor's name. Dave and Paul S. had fun, linking him, to his beatle-esche hair...With the strong accent, and bangs, I guess Beatle jokes were inevitable....

is there a reason i forgot about for making the meetings so much earlier AND on sundays? that is thanksgiving weekend and really wont work for me...and although for this meeting i will actually BE on the east coast...in general a 7:30 meeting would be 6:30 for me...not a great time ..but i can do it if there are 'reasons' ...if you know what i mean!

i am planning on being at the bottom line on the 25th for the arlo/ppm/tom paxton benefit for dave van ronk....so that sunday definitely wont work for me...sorry! i dont actually mean to be difficult (this time!)

i saw a bit of the dave letterman piece with 'harry potter' and found him to be a delightful kid ....that's nice too...but i wonder if he realizes what he is in for in the immediate future!!! poor thing!

Harry Potter fans line up. Skip school to watch movie. Cool. Hoping to get out of town tonite to get a glimpse myself. AS the theater here sucks...So, hopefully I'll see it in Potsdam....

Back from the HP movie. It's really good, especially Hagrid. But all good. A lot was left out, obviously due to time contstraints, but they managed to weave in most (but not all) of the important stuff. Probably casting would be my rave review. They're going to have to hurry, (poor kid playing Harry, indeed!) if they're going to do seven films before he's got kids old enough to play the part!

More than ever, looking forward to BBC.

edited to add, Richard Harris has allready committed himself to the sequel...Letterman seemed surprized....Then again, sequels aren't quite the same, with differant actors...Hopefully they don't have to kill him off, in part 3...

GMTA perhaps, or just confused minds? Anyway, as it happens, I'm on a Hary Potter jag myself -- read Sorcerer's Stone last summer, just read Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azkeban this past week, and am going back to the library tomorrow or so for the fourth. Goblet of Fire, is it?

Was begining to wonder if there was ever going to be another work of fiction that I could make my way through, afer the BA in English. Rowlings makes reading fun again. What a talent she has for sparking the imagination with words ...

Yeah, a lot of worthwhile stuff in them, and the book burners would do well to read the series themselves, before giving it the Farenheit 451 treatment. Hogwarts is just as concerned with children having defenses against the Dark Arts as the book burning people are, after all. More so, if anything. There's no understanding some people -- at least, not for me.

'Nuff said. Wouldn't want to give anything away to those who haven't begun them. It's too much fun discovering it all for one's self. Enjoy! They're quite magical.
