actually Nathen, I think you're talking about a case that happened in Bethesda, Maryland a couple of years ago. The kid was an American citizen but his father had come here from Israel...It was only because his father was an Israeli that Israel recoginzed him as a citizen and refused to extradite. The US fought pretty hard to have him returned but he was tried in Israel I believe. I think it might also have had to do with the death penalty but i'm not sure about that.

But regarding the Taliban trying Bin Laden, that seems like asking the Nazi Party to try Hitler?

I don't do political threads very well, but I agree with Pat! and I am somewhat familiar with the case that Nathen was talking about...unless of course there is another one!

For more on the legalities, this was from Arlen Spector on the Senate floor the day after the attacks:

WHILE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY PUBLIC COMMENTS POINTING TO THE SO-CALLED SIGNATURE OF OSAMA BIN LADEN AS TO YESTERDAY'S TERRORIST ATTACKS, WE CANNOT--CONSISTENT WITH OUR VALUES--MAKE ANY JUDGMENTS UNTIL WE KNOW MORE.

BUT WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT OSAMA BIN LADEN HAS BEEN AT WAR WITH THE UNITED STATES SINCE 1989, AND WE KNOW THAT IN INDICTMENTS RETURNED BY THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK GOING BACK TO 1993, WHEN OSAMA BIN LADEN AND HIS COCONSPIRATORS IN EL QUADA WERE INDICTED FOR KILLING 18 UNITED STATES SOLDIERS AND WOUNDING 73OTHERS IN MOGADISHU.

OSAMA BIN LADEN HAS BEEN AT WAR WITH THE UNITED STATES FOR A LONG TIME. WE KNOW FURTHER THAT OSAMA BIN LADEN WAS INDICTED AGAIN BY THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK IN 1998 FOR THE ATTACKS ON U.S. EMBASSIES IN NAIROBI, KENYA, WHERE 212 PEOPLE WERE KILLED, AND IN DAR ESALAM, TANZANIA, WHERE 11 PEOPLE WERE KILLED.

PRIOR TO 1986, THE UNITED STATES DID NOT HAVE JURISDICTION TO TRY TERRORISTS IN UNITED STATES COURTS FOR ACTS COMMITTED OVERSEAS. BUT FOLLOWING THE MURDERS OF MANY PEOPLE, INCLUDING UNITED STATES CITIZENS, IN THE ROME AND VIENNA AIRPORTS IN DECEMBER OF 1985, I INTRODUCED LEGISLATION WHICH BECAME THE TERRORIST PROSECUTION ACT OF 19 1986. AS ENACTED, IT PROVIDED FOR THE DEATH PENALTY FOR ANYONE WHO ASSAULTED, MAIMED OR MURDERED A UNITED STATES CITIZEN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, PROVIDING TECHNICALLY THE NEXUS.

NOW, AS A RESULT OF THAT LEGISLATION, THESE INDICTMENTS HAVE BEEN BROUGHT AGAINST OSAMA BIN LADEN AND HIS TERRORIST GROUP, KNOWN AS EL QUADA. AND FOR A FULLER UNDERSTANDING OF THE WAY BIN LADEN HAS WAGED WAR AGAINST THE UNITED STATES, I ASK UNANIMOUS CONSENT THAT THESE LENGTHY INDICTMENTS BE MADE A PART OF THE RECORD.

Thank You Pat for that information, and

Thank You Fitzy for the added details you offered, I had only recalled the case because the young man did not act alone and the other fellow was from the USA and got a much greater punishment for the crime...as a foot note if the other young man ever returns to the USA he will be sent to prison for his crimes...

While I do not think that Osamma Bin Ladin would of been convicted by the Taliban, I think such a trial, if made public, would have been very insightful. Just like in the Kennedy Case, we may never have the public hearing in which so many questions get answered. I do feel our justice system is one of the best in the world, and while not every case is fair, in time we seem to correct ourselves.

I like this topic, where we can trade ideas and thoughts and yet still embrace one another in our friendship and love, maybe we need to invite the world leaders over for a while.....

i undestand the premiss in which you asked this question nate but what you are failling to understand is that the financing for the taliban comes from bin ladin. so how fair would you expect the trial to be??

Okay I found us a new Judge

If we catch any terrorist we should try the case in India, with judge Allah Bukhsh Ranjha

he heard a case regarding a child killer, (100 boys, no more no less, just to make the mothers cry).

During the proceedings, the serial killer
Javed was sentenced to death on 100 counts on March 16, 2000.

In the verdict, the judge said that Javed and his co-accused Sajid in the presence of the families of their victims be strangled with the same iron chain which they used as a weapon of offence, their bodies be cut into pieces and put into a drum containing acid as they did with those of the dead children.

Seems to me to be both reasonable and fair.

the killers, killed themselves in their cells before, Justice could be carried out.

On a lighter Note:
http://www.lindqvist.com/externsajt.php?externalSite=http://homepage.mac.com/nikkelindqvist/.Pictures/bertbig.jpg&extName=Property+of+Reuter

Bert of Bert and Arnie fame, has been appearing on the net in photos of Usama Bin Ladin, now I am not sure that Bert posed for the pictures or if they have been added but this does lead to some interesting questions.

Where is Bert from?

What is his faith?

What has he been teaching our children?

Leaving no stone unturned in our search for the bad guys, let's bring in Bert to answer a few questions.

I found the answer for this one.....

Demonstrators hold up a poster of terrorist suspect Osama bin Laden during a pro Bin Laden rally in Dhaka, Bangladesh Monday, Oct. 8, 2001. Within the poster, at center right, is a printed image of "Sesame Street" children's television character "Bert." Azad Products, who manufactures the poster was not aware of the appearance of Bert in one of the collaged images that make up the poster. ``We got the images through e-mails and off the internet. We did not give the pictures a second look or realize what they signified until you pointed it to us,'' Mostafa Kamal, production manager, told The Associated Press. Sesame Street or Bert are hardly known in Bangladesh. (AP Photo/Pavel Rahman)

but I still think Bert should be questioned.

We need to get together and decide on one correct spelling of this guys name....

trying to get the damn link to work, but I can't break it down without screwing it up,

A federal grand jury in White Plains, N.Y., was convened after the Sept. 11 attacks and was reviewing evidence and issuing search warrants.
Those most likely to be indicted, authorities said, include bin Laden and his top lieutenants: Ayman al-Zawahiri, who serves as his second in command; Mohammed Atef, al Qaeda's military commander; and Mustafa Muhammad Ahmed, believed to have been the financier for the attacks.

I don't think we can draw too many conclusions about Bert based just on a photo collage, but certainly he should be asked about it. In the past he's basically just served as a role model for gay puppets everywhere, along with Ernie, of course. He's a little grumpy, but he's never been seen as a terrorist up to now.

Pat, are you saying Ernie is not the same as Arnie????

Our Arnie is not a gay puppet?

I find that hard to belive.

Can Anyone Offer ANY PROOF that Arnie is not a gay puppet? Yes I mean our own beloved Arnie, not some bag on rags on TV

Nathen: Don't ask.
Arnie: Don't tell.

What about the idea of catching the terrorists, sending them to Sweden for a complete sex change, and having them live the rest of their lives as women under the taliban? Rather a bad joke, but an interesting thought.

I can't offer proof that Arnie is or isn't a gay puppet, but Ernie and Arnie are not the same...uh...being. I'm not as sure about Bert and Osama, though, having re-examined the photos.

As I was thinking about an alternative solution to our problem it hit me.
In Islamic belief it is said that if ones' body is burried with a pig (they think them to be unclean i think them to be good eats) thier soul will go to hell.

This belief got me to thinking...
if we put a pig on every plane then the sucide bombers would stop for fear of going to hell.

also muslims are opposed to alcohol right???

spike the water with some vodka..wait until they get shit faced and turn a few million pigs loose on the country. fuckem'

why waste perfectly good bullets if a few pigs will do the trick.

During WW1 I think it was, a General of the US Army was having problems with muslim terrorist and he caught three, took one of them and shot him, wrapped the body in the pig skin and covered it with pig blood, then released the other two to return to the tribe and tell them what they had seen.
The General had no more problems with the muslims.

Mongo your idea has a certain merit, but would the pigs wear diapers?

THAT PIGS MIGHT FLY
good logo
