I own a number of Bibles so I guess I am a real threat lol. I Googled my addy & my folks addy & got nothing. This is scary what the Wiz brought up. I can't help but wonder if we are near the end times. I think Mike would say so after reading this if he were here...

I'm pretty sure the terrorists need the info to follow us home from Iraq. Without the gps info they would just get lost.

I got "GPS-painted" a couple of weeks ago, but he did my back door, instead of my front door. I'm wondering what these guys are gonna do with the millions of homeless or the "rainbow people" who are practically nomads living in the Ocala National Forest.

I wonder what kind of reception I'd get if I tried to "GPS-paint" the front door of the Wite House!

My computer has my house painted. I just drove by my place on google earth and read the plates on my vehicles parked in my yard. When I go out, my cell phone location is triangulated by towers, and my truck has Onstar with Satelite radio and satelite phone......my truck has its own phone number and if I lock my keys in the truck, someone far away pushes a button and pops the locks open. People coming around and "painting" my home or my mobile location is something I've just accepted, because the alternative is doing without the technologies which allow me to make a living and continue my education. I don't like the thought of the abuses to our privacy that these technologies could bring about, it's just another reality now for most of us. Like Shelly wrote, we've been literally painting our own front doors for a couple hundred years so the mailman (a Federal agent!) can find us.

Not to mention that the government already knows a LOT about you...it knows where you work, it knows how much income your household has. If you participate in the FSA-Feds program, where pre-tax dollars are saved in an account so you can submit health care bills and be re-imbursed from tax free money means they know your health status, if you've had your mammogram or colonoscopy, or have been to the dentist lately. I'm sure they're saving all those receipts you have to submit for reimbursement. From that, they know what prescriptions you're taking, and whether you've replaced your glasses.
If you use a county library, they can see what you're interests are in reading matter.
Anyone in your family have a security clearance? Your lifestyle, your spouse's friends and lifetyle, who you hang around with, every place you've ever lived, and what you do in your leisure time has been quietly investigated, and they've talked to your friends and neighbors to see if you told them the truth.

That's pretty invasive...and seeing as Google Earth already has us painted (and I can just about read the plates on my car) I'm not going to worry about the Census people doing it yet again. Big Brother has been here for a long time.

You all forgot about the metallic strip embedded in every US paper currency note above one dollar in value. They know how much money you have, too! (Got that from "The Lone Gunman" conspiracy theorists on "The X-Files").

AND.....in times like these, with the economic crisis and budget cuts for libraries and schools, the government's utilization of these technologies must be costing massive amounts of money. It needs to be justified in some dramatic fashion while we are severely struggling with the allocation of our scarce resources.

I unwittingly raised an interesting issue (maybe?), that is, how are the homeless accounted for in the census? Are they just non-existent, or do they somehow get counted?

They were counted where I live. I can't remember how they did it, but there were census people getting their info.

The census reports come in the mail...if someone in your household took care of filling it out and mailing it back, you've been counted. It's when you don't return it in a timely manner, or have recently moved into new apartments or houses that you get the live person checking up on you. They'll also call you on the phone.
