Being accommodating of religious people isn't hypocritical, it's just good manners, which usually aren't reciprocated (though they are on these boards, and I cherish being able to discuss these issues here--there's nowhere else that I can). No one said religious people don't have a right to their views, but I for one wish they'd quit trying to shove them down my throat. In this part of the country, at least, Christians corner the market on arrogance. I'm tired of the proselytizing at work, of religious Muzak in stores, of having to sit through public prayer in secular settings, of having people come to my door to 'save' me, and of subsidizing their big country clubs, a.k.a. megachurches, through tax exemptions.

Edited to say, and as for the topic, if it's President Obama or President Clinton, I'll be as happy as the proverbial Clam.

....we are on a huge ride. I echo sentiments, voiced here, inspired and encourage by a great folk singer. Nowhere can you find this, and where would we be without him.
my love to you all.

Well the rr will have come a long way after they start teaching all of our sins have been thrown into the bottom of the sea, never to be remembered again
so THEY will never again teach know the lord for all will know him. as Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrews states. Then they will no longer be what I call the MEDIA-RIGHT STORM.

I don't really class myself as atheist. That being said, I can't really attach myself to anything that is being sold as religion today. It's like a bunch of people talking about a bunch of stuff but nobody read the book. Sure they can quote a few verses to prove their point but nobody got the point of the book. All them religions are just about the same...

spelling/grammar

The country was founded on Christian principles and the principles are good. Americans are not obligated to "belong" to any religion. I live in a small town in the Bible belt and have never had religion crammed down my throat. One time someone who was Jehova's Witness came to my door. "I'm not interested" was enough to make her go away.

Jesus also hated religous people. They were his enemy and they killed him. The teachings of Jesus are good. He said the most important commandment is love God, and equally important, love one another.

Christians certainly are not the most arrogant of people, maybe excepting GWB-who I do not consider a Christian. He lies, steals and kills. Perhaps if people in the government followed good principles such as love one another (which means they would put the benifit of the ones they represent ahead of themselves) the world would be better.

Christians have been bashed as much as any other group. As Arlo says, you can find any kind of people on any side of any issue. Some are good, some are bad. If what the Bible says will happen does happen, then and only then will the issue of creation vs evolution be settled.....just saying.

My point exactly. The teachings of most religions are good. It's the people that screw it up.

This Land was founded on principals of Liberty. That may be more of a christian principal then the rule of law so much talked about today. The rule of law didn't do one bit of good for the Natives. So now that we the people are the natives, what good is it now? May the great spirits over the hand tied thrones of D.C. be merciful.

Its the MEDIA-RIGHT STORM, from about the 80's on long whose fruits caught up to me around 1994. I saw their stone throwing creep into a pool playing bar of mine, right down the road from an Abbey Road condo. And those fruits... ended up costing my Union bought home. Along with the love of my life, who had tended bar on Sundays there.
Her X gave me her work address, the day after easter flowers were sent. Than some moron almost got her X killed. Which complicated matters to no end.
That stone throwing from the 80's, where both couples were forced to work, while THEY had the nerve to start talking about Family Values, has long stopped!

Leo, are you saying that woman were forced to work , and that was the beginning of stone throwing ? Beginning in the late 70's , but more so in the 80's, was the mass movement of woman who WANTED to work, to make a difference, to bring value, to be more than a baby-maker, to earn a salary, to use their college education, or to just be like the guys they partied next to at college.....

well. I can only say how it all had an effect on my life. By the time I got married in 86, I thought 2 incomes (with my between jobs of the IBEW) would give us a better life. Somehow it struck me then about hearing the nerve of them to talk about family values. It would have helped had I been in love with my X. But the stone throwing did not become clear to me untill the X left back to California, and the stone throwing cost me the love of my life, who tended bar on Sundays, right around the block from a great pool playing club. I can only ay how it seems like it effected me. The Unions being broken, along with madd mothers hasn't helped either. At this time I would like to start damm, drunk drivers against mad mothers. It was in my mind, the powers 2b operating under the influence of something... which was causing kids to drive to fast/and the many friends lost...

el_libra, I think you contradicted yourself with the statement :

"Jesus also hated religious people"

Also, altho  ugh many people came here to escape religious persecution, they weren't any more tolerant of others. Indians were heathens, people were exiled from the Massachusetts Bay for not being Puritans, I'm not even going to start on the witch trials which had it's base in religion.

Ceashel, I agree with you about tolerating others views and about it just being good manners. I don't give people unsolicited advice about raising their kids either. When I tell someone that I'm an agnostic people look at me as if I have 2 heads and my Christian friends immediately try to explain how wrong I am. I don't push my views or disbelief on them. I usually try not to discuss religion with these people.

Not to change the subject, but could someone explain to me how to quote stuff on here? I couldn't figure it out. Thanks
