But it is not about that! I truly believe that the perception of the spirit of a lost loved one is in the wind and I plainly stated only memories remain. I am convinced and I am a believer and I myself have experienced on numerous occasions (NUMEROUS OCCASIONS) the feelings of spirtuality and I do believe the brain is designed to create that sensation (along with numerous others that I appreciate dearly as a living human) but the point is, it is all a figment of the brain, and if your memories of a loved one are so dear that your brain creates the sensation of their spirit in the wind, well then thank God for brains!

I just want to point out the critical difference between spirituality as in Loise's' description above, manifested in nature, and the spirituality that comes from the Divine.

The Holy Spirit, believed by many to be the manifestation of God in which He descends into the human soul as a purely unearned gift, and if/when accepted, marks them as a saved soul (sorry for the complete oversimplification - no intention to offend anyone). To this end, and to address the issue of , upon death of the human body, the saved soul is then transfered to Heaven. I am not exactly sure of the transportation route, as some Catholics may have to stop in Purgatory for additional penance if they still have an unconfessed sin on their soul. Now , if they committed a mortal sin, they automatically take a U turn and down to hell they go. The protestants have it a bit easier, especially the ones who adhere to the belief " once saved, always saved".


PSB posed the question in a previous post, "Does my spirituality get in the way of my atheism? The answer to that question, is no.
Does his atheism get in the Divine's way? That I believe the answer to be also no.

So I wonder : when you experience a spiritual moment is it from nature or from above?

Theology aside, there are indications that the mind and consciousness may be separate from the brain as some instances of real-time memory have been reported even after brain activity was evidently non existent in some cardiac patients who were later revived. That possibility is touched upon in the book "What Happens When We Die" by Sam Parnia, M.D., Ph.D. Whether this is due to some metaphysical/spiritual cause or some yet to be discovered/determined physical cause would still be the question.

I don't know about reincarnation, what survives after we die, whatever...I just know about freaky things that started happening when I started doing a lot of genealogy research...the wierdest being a book falling (well, more like flying!) off a shelf in the research area and landing at my feet in the Fairfax VA Library...open to the page I needed. It seems the dead DO want to be remembered, and for other people to discover their stories.
