Hope everyone survived the blackouts OK.
After the blackouts in the '70's Maine and New Hampshire got on a different grid than the rest of the Northeast.It really paid off this time.I won't complain anymore about losing our lights every time we have a storm.It usually only lasts a short time (unless a hurricane happens to be passing through or we have a really bad ice storm,but that's rare).

while on one hand, walking over the 59th street bridge evokes many people (the ones older than dirt) to hum strains of Simon and Garfunkle, on the other hand, having to do this twice (on a hot day) within a 2 year period, is starting to get on my nerves!!!!
I made it home with the aide of Ali the Cabbie, who zigged and zagged his way thru queens, and took me all the way home, for a well deserved off-the-meter fare of my choice.
I then proceeded to cool my buns in my neighbors swimming pool, until I had re-hydrated. Power came back at 5:15 Friday morning for us... and since LIRR was still out (there's only so much JohnC can do, right?) I only 'worked' briefly from home, and then proceeded to spend the rest of the day back in that cool cool pool...

In hindsight, I might have stayed more comfortable by just staying in the city... my office building is only 2 years old, and has complete battery and generator service self-contained. It kept the lights and AC on the entire time. I've been told there was QUITE a party going on by some of the 'younger' folks on my floor...

oh yeah... AT&T Wireless sucks! (my new mantra)

Our particular part of Ohio missed out on the blackout, but it was all around us. We were in a Best Buy store when it happened, getting our computer looked at. I thought they had just turned all the boom boxes up too high, but then I got outside and found everyone in the dark. As we headed for home lights were on, and our power only went out for about 15 minutes. Glad to hear everyone survived so well. And, yes, I know now they're saying it started here in Ohio, but I promise I was only using ONE sewing machine that day! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

I thought it "interesting" that Texas had its own little power grid, too...<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/confused.gif" width=15 height=22>

My brother (Mayfield Hts.) got power back fairly quickly - but had no water... so he went to his girlfriend's house (Mentnor) who had no power, but water... Ohio is one wacky place alright!

As for Texas... what's the confusion? with all the executions done there, they NEED to be off the grid!! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/eek.gif" width=15 height=15>

Mike talked to his sister in Columbus last nite. They didn't lose power in here area in Columbus but she said Mt Vernon did. Folks will remember Arlo came to Mt Vernon in 1992...

Texas has it's own grid because it takes up as much space as every other state who is on the northeast grid ... and because they're like a whole 'nother country--and bigger than most. Hell, it's practically it's own continent!
