Hey all -

So... I'm finally going to make a concert again, after all these years. I wish it could be the church shows, but that is too close to other things - it comes right between my sweetie's birthday and our anniversary. We have plans for both, so we can't manage going away for the church shows too. So I know I won't get to see a lot of you.

But I will get to see Arlo again. And I'm hoping at least a few others of you will be there. I believe Cheryl already said she would be. I just bought tickets for hubby and I to go to the Kennedy Center Show with the NSO in D.C.

So... I'm wondering if anyone else will be there? I hope so. I can't wait to see some Blunderites again.... and get a chance to say hi to Arlo again too. It's been too long.

Not sure if we will be going because I don't like driving in DC & would have th take the subway from Northern, VA to get there. The problem with the subway is that is ends so early & by the time we leave after the show it may be down for the night leaving us stranded there. I do know for definate we will be at the Bethesda, MD show & the shows in Alexandria & Hampton, VA next yr. I bet Sue goes to this one. It sounds like fun...

I'll be in attendance as well... So for any of you new folks who I haven't had a chance to meet, I'd love to get the opportunity to say Hi!

No, Cheryl, as it was the place I came the closest to ever being murdered. I do not think getting stranded overnight in DC is a good idea. Luckily, Michael and I were in our 20s and could still make pretty good time on our feet. But now, in DC I will always stay in well lit, well traveled groups.

DC is okay around the tourist areas and NW residential areas, but you sure don't want to stray away from those places or hang around after all the museums close. It's pretty safe around the Kennedy Center property; it's fenced in. We drive in and use their parking lot under the building, and it's okay. It can be a little dicey just getting there...you gotta go past it and then make a couple of left turns to come back and drive into the parking area. Driving out and going back to Virginia is real easy.
Jim and I have tickets; we'll be there.

Still not sure if we're gonna go or not so no tix bought yet. this is just oo close to our trip to KY in Oct and the Bethesda, MD show in Nov. Plus my cousin Jason Mraz is doing 2 gigs in Richmond in Nov & we're going to that. So we have all that to afford. I need to be buddies with Donald Trump or somebody else rich lol. I'd sure love to go tho...

I will be there as well. Also at the November concert at the Strathmore, and -- finally, something I've been promising myself I would do for many years -- at the Carnegie Hall concert Thanksgiving weekend.

I tell myself that this is not reflective of an unhealthy obsession; I mean, Arlo doesn't get tired of listening to himself every night, does he? These will be 3 very different experiences, and this is just like reading three books by one author; or like eating a banana, an apple, and a pear in one afternoon; or like watching 6 episodes of Buffy in a row...right?

Right. Years ago I did five Arlo shows in about a two week period, and each one was totally unique, kinda' like blunderflakes.....

Having gone to a few shows over the years, I can tell you - all of Arlo's shows are at least somewhat unique, though you will find that some of the shows during the same season do tend to have a lot of common elements to them. Not exactly a repeat, per se... but they will be, at least, very similar.

However, you're going to find that the three shows you are going to are going to all be quite different from each other. If you were going to pick a grouping of shows, and wanted a good variety, you couldn't have picked much better.

The D.C. show is Arlo with the National Symphony Orchestra. He'll still do a lot of his stories, and a lot of his traditional songs, but they are done with the orchestra too. Quite a unique sound. I really loved it the last time I heard it, and am really looking forward to it.

The Strathmore show is a more traditional Arlo show. It's one of the regular season shows. I would love to make it to that show too, but right now, can't really justify the money for another concert. As time comes closer, I'll think about it... who knows, maybe I'll end up splurging after all. I'd love to see another regular show. It'll probably depend a lot on how my hubby likes the D.C. concert. He's not a real fan of concerts (in general, not just Arlo concerts).

And then the Carnegie show - that one's with Pete, the Seeger family, and the Guthrie family. Very different from the other two. A very cool show too. I envy you getting to see that one. Seeing all of them together is a real treat.

Looks like everyones going but me. Mike says we can't afford it with going to the Bethesda, MD show & then the reunion in KY in Oct & seeing cousin Jason twice in Nov. Sucks, but that's how life is anyway lol...

Agh! Sorry I missed you at the concert. I saw you and Jim over across the floor, but intermission was too short to make it over there, and after the concert there was no way to get over to where you were. I went to the restroom, and then the ushers were pushing everyone out, and I didn't see you again.

We were up in the first row of boxes (parse boxes? I think they are called - the lowest level) on the opposite side of the hall from where you were sitting, so I had a good view of the floor, and saw you when you walked in. But never managed to wave you down or anything.

So, maybe next time, whenever that might be. I'd love to make it to the Bethesda show... but don't know that I'm willing to spend that much money on a concert again that soon, so we'll see. Besides, James enjoyed it, but he isn't quite a concert fan (not because it's Arlo, just of concerts in general) so I hate to drag him off to another so soon.

It was a great concert though, wasn't it? Well, the intro could have been a little shorter, but other than that...

Kim, I've got a ticket for the Strathmore concert...it's close by and fairly easy for me to get to...also the Keswick and Harrisburg shows, and that will be it for me for the season. I don't know where you're living now, so I don't know if the Strathmore is close for you or not.
I have different issues with Jim...because of work he's not always available to go or always interested in what I want to see...so I got used to going anyway by myself, or dragging a friend; otherwise, I'd get to very few shows per year (I go see lots of people...not just Guthries!) and the music in this area is just too good to miss out on!
I was looking for you! You must have gone in long before we did...I was standing outside at the bottom of the steps until they started blinking the lights for everyone to go in, and I didn't leave the hall until I said Hi to Killer...we were about the last people out. You oughta drop on by Bethesda. It'll be fun. Our last show of the season is Bethesda, ND. The next yr in Feb I think it is, we pick up with going to see him in Hampton, VA & the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. 3 days of shows will be fun...
