I'm very disappointed to see the Arlo shows so close but out of my reach. 3 shows to boot!

Especially when I said I wished he would play at Wildwood. Very intimate venue.

I always take my 2 kids (3 & 5) whenever you're in St. Louis at the Touhill PAC (which is a very cool venue also). I also always buy my mom and her husband tix for her birthday.

Wildwood wants $130/ ticket for "concert only" which comes out to $520 for the 4 of us. ($780 if I get tix for my mom)

Espenschied Chapel wants $100/ ticket which comes out to $400 ($600 if I get tix for my mom)

Regardless, I just can't justify spending that on a concert and it's just very disappointing to see.

Hopefully, we'll see you back at the Touhill again where I think tickets are $35-$40

For anyone going to the Wildwood show in Steelville, it is a very cool place. You'll enjoy yourself a ton

check out in March 08, Arlo will be at SIUE in Edwardsville, IL and the ticket prices are $35.
I understand about prices, but if you could see the Espenschied Chapel, you would really want to be there for that concert!
It is a little cemetery chapel that was saved and beautifully restored by a group of folks who formed a not-for-profit group to raise all the money and do all the work.
The venue is so intimate, that there's not much profit to be made even when all the tickets are sold at $100 each. They aren't doing it to make a lot of money, but just for for the memorable concert.
Ohmygoodness, it is a wonderful place for a concert!
And to be there, with Arlo and such an small group of fans! Oh, you don't want to miss this opportunity!

As far as it being a non-profit organization. I'm not implying these shows are not good or that even some are overpriced. Simply I'm disappointed I won't make it. Do you know about kids at the chapel? Most places are 5 & under are free with a paid adult.

Wildwood is great, i know. And we love the atmosphere.

The chapel has no alcohol and no smoking, and so there's no distractions in that regard (no bar noise). the acoustics are superb and even if you sit in the very back of the room, you are still in a great spot.

and it is an easy drive from St. Louis.

Normally, kids under 12 are free, but i doubt they could have that policy for this.

i know how it is when you have kids. we raised 3 kids. most places we know of make you buy tickets for each seat. i remember the only time we didn't have to buy kids tickets at some rate was for babies that sat on our laps. Back in those days, we didn't have much money to spend on concert tickets. or records, for that matter.
I remember when our youngest was a baby we took all 3 kids to see John Prine and Arlo Guthrie at the same billing in Evansville Indiana. i know we had to buy tickets for the 8 and 5 year old, but not for the baby. Now that "baby" is 22!

Can you imagine, John Prine and Arlo in the same night!!! it was awesome!

p.s. we're buying that youngest child a $100 ticket for the October 14 at the chapel show, though!

Yeah, my daughter who is 5 has seen about 40 concerts and my son, 3, has seen about 20.

I personally have been to around 180 concerts around the US and the ONLY 2 venues I've ever seen that charge for 5 and under are both in St. Louis. The pageant and the fox. Obviously, these types of venues are a bit different as is the touhill.

Oh well. Tape the show for us

it's great that you take your kids with you! We rarely ever went anywhere without our kids, but i don't recall any concert venues letting any kids occupy a seat without paying at least a student price. I guess things have changed. i'm surprised you can get a 5 year old into the Pageant! Did you take them to see They Might Be Giants there? They are great!

The farthest seat away from the stage at the Espenschied chapel is closer than the best seats at the Touhill. and i thought the sound at the Touhill could have been a lot better.

i haven't been to the Meridian Ballroom at SIUE, but i heard there's not a stage, so there's a pretty good chance you won't see the artist very well.
but they might not charge for kids. students (but i would assume college i.d. students) are $15.

i bet your parents took you to see live music when you were little.

I can feel for ya. We had to miss a gig in Baltimore some yrs ago cuz it was a benefit for feeding hungry people like a food bank of something & tix were $150. I had to console myself by saying well it's in the other state. Still the people they were trying to benefit were outpriced from going.

Then there was the psychiatry show a yr or so ago in DC. In order to go to that one you had to pay around $200 to attend the psychiatry convention. I asked when I called to find out about the tix if you could get tix to just the Arlo show only. You couldn't, you had to buy tix for the whole convention at the $200 price. So we didn't get to go to that. I consoled myself by saying well he was doing a coupla shows in Va or nearby around then I could go to. Thank God he was doing shows in VA around this one.

Still it's frustrating when theres a show you want to go to & the tix are so high. The venues set the prices tho. Hopefully he'll do some cheaper shows near you. Maybe you could make that church show without the kids & maybe they'd understand. Good luck...

No, at the touhill, lap child (I think 2 and under). I was referring to most major venues.

Last time at the touhill there was an issue with the presale codes so I had to call. I never thought I'd turn down dead center front row. I was the first to purchase and she asked to pick a seat. Instead, I sit on the right side that is elevated just a bit. Plus, it's not cramped with kids.

Almost every show at the pageant is "all ages". However, the balcony is 21+ because of the bar up there. However, I've gotten to know most of B&D Security so they let us go up there. If they serve a 5 year old, there's a problem

My parents took me to see some shows. I remember seeing arlo at the Calvin Theater in Washington, MO.

You'd be amazed at the list of artists my kids have seen.

I still can't justify wildwood for $130 a ticket.

I admire your devotion to your kids. Spending time together is the very best, most wonderful time of your lives -- always.

And I don't mean this to sound like a know-it-all, and I wish you all the very best, but you will most likely find sometimes that your kids' priorities and tastes are not the same as yours. I remember fretting over leaving the youngest at home and taking the other 2 boys to see John Cougar Mellencamp. The oldest (10) LOVED it, the middle one (7) tolerated it (but didn't share our enthusiasm), and the youngest who stayed home with Grammy and Grampy had a most wonderful time.
And, I remember very clearly a time that my husband took our oldest son who was 5 at the time to a professional basketball game with a hefty priced ticket and his disappointment that he was more interested in the concessions than watching the game.

It's not a bad thing that people have different tastes and priorities. When your kids are older and have their own money to spend, they will make spending choices according to their priorities, too... and they may or may not be the same as your priorities. (sometimes you'll be very proud and pleased, and sometimes you might just not "get it"). And not just when it comes to spending money!

And there's no shame in you having different tastes and priorities.

... Spending time together is much better than spending money together.

Good point and the day they don't want to go, we'll work on that but my kids both LOVE concerts. From arlo, dylan, david grisman, phish, widespread panic, any reggae show, etc...

And I just have to ask this: have you taken your kids to shows at Wildwood? They are always pretty pricey tickets. But not that i'm complaining, i think it's worth it.

You should check out the Espenschied Chapel for future stuff, even if you don't make it to see Arlo there. It is really, really nice.
