In my little corner of Fairfax County, VA there's cherry trees and Bradford Pear trees blooming all over the place...the redbuds are getting ready to bloom this weekend, and it looks like our crab apple tree is also going to burst into hot pink blossoms tomorrow. Jim has already mowed the lawn twice. My daffodils are in full bloom, my hyacinths are in their purple glory, the crocus were smiling at the sun last week. Soon to come are the bearded iris, and next month it will be the glorious Azalea season. Just gotta love spring in VA!
We're very close to DC (20 miles south and west) but there's so much blooming here, I don't feel any desire to go join the crowds on the Tidal Basin in DC.

I like the 6th photo of the mourning dove nesting in the crook of a cherry tree.
Reminded me of the pair of mourning doves last year that nested in a bush just outside my living room window that faces into my back yard. My reading chair is right next to the window and so I could easily watch them as they raised two sets of offspring. We got to know each other pretty well.
Yoko was here this year and left her wish on a cherry tree as part of the Wish Tree festivities - photos 8 & 9.

Now wouldn't that be something if we could get doves and Bushes together in Washington?
Maybe Cheney would have his shotgun and take a shot at the dove and hit the bush instead?

Anyway, if the doves were to nest in *the* bush, they would have to evict the bats from his belfry first.

Ditto here in Montgomery County MD, Sue. I start and end my commute to and from DC each work day by walking through my beautiful neighborhood to the bus stop to catch the bus to the metro. It's the best part of my day. Years ago I used to drive to work. It takes longer this way but I like it much better. Gives me a chance to say Hi to my neighbors and soak up the glories of each season. I've worked in DC about 30 years now and am close enough to the Mall that it's easy to take in the scenery there too. I love this whole region.

You're so lucky to have your daffodils still blooming. Mine are dying out. I had a coupla flowers grwoing where I'm not sure what they are. They look like a daffodil cross mixed with something else. Those are dying out too. The cooler weather here in VA isn't gonna help them much either. They were pretty while they lasted tho...

Red wing black birds are back here. Pretty soon the lilacs will be in bloom, can't hardly wait.

Saw a couple of cardinals as I left my house this morning. They flew right in front of me. May be the same ones that were here last year.
My purple azalea is in bloom. It always blooms before the other azaleas.

We see the dodo's and cookoos..we also see them pounding taxpayer's money down rat holes!
I've been seeing robins for weeks...even before that last snow/ice storm we had. Looks like at this point they're all males, eagerly waiting for the hens to return from winter grounds. We should be seeing bluebirds sometime in the next couple of weeks! We've also got several hawks in the area; you don't see them so much, but you hear them when they're being chased and picked on by the crows! They cry and scream and complain a lot about that. I've also seen the hawks swoop down and pick off squirrels racing across my back yard.
We've also got a lot of foxes; there's an old woodchuck burrow at the end of our lot, and several generations of foxes have been using it to raise their pups; it's delightful to see the little ones come out of the burrow and play at dawn and dusk; they play like kittens do, pouncing on insects and each other. The foxes are also the reason why it's not such a good idea to let a cat run loose around here, never mind the high incidence of rabies and Lyme disease from the ticks.

I saw a Quayle next to a Bush on the White House lawn a few years back. I attended the event with a friend who had an extra ticket. Also saw a flock of Clintons at the Kennedy Center. They landed in the Presidential Box just below where we were sitting and their leader took time to shake our hands. It was Christmas and their whole family was there.

I took my kids to the Easter egg roll at the White House in the spring of 1988...they were ages 6 and 9. It was a really fun day! I figured as long as we were living here , they ought to experience it at least once!

I bet the kids got some eggs, but Reagan stole all the jellybeans.......
