Jay, I'm in love! Lots of Hurdy Gurdy music on YouTube. Too bad it's so rare and hard to find.

They've blocked all of YouTube in Turkey. Hopefully they'll allow it again and I can tell you if it's Turkish or not :cry:

Bummer. The band is called Djinn. Try this link. You can play some of their music from that site. At least you might be able to tell by the instruments they play. On YouTube there's a belly-dancer involved.

Thanks for the link. Nice music. Some of it sounds like a blend of Turkish and Morroccan/north African.

Apparently the government blocked access to the site because there were some videos being posted defaming Ataturk (founder modern Turkey). It's illegal to criticize him. Anyway, seems there was some sort of video war going on with Greeks and Turks posting insulting clips. Seems pretty silly to me, but hey, what can you do?
The gov't said they were going to open access to YouTube today.

It is a rather sophmoric gesture.
BTW - I'm actually from Texas, so grew up speaking English & Spanish. I've been in Istanbul for 9 years now, working as a journalist, so hopefully my English is still good. :lol:

You Tube is back, so that's good news from here. :lol: Something else to sidetrack me from work.
Many years ago a Brit told me that in spite of being Texan I spoke English fairly well. My first job with a magazine in London was to do a profile of a major art collector in Amarillo (of all places). They sent me because they couldn't understand his accent. ROFL!

Yah, well, Amarillo ... that IS a different language. Different universe, too. But then, the Beatles played there in 1964, and Arlo is playing there in May. I don't think there's been much there in between, except the Cadillac Ranch.

There really isn't much up in that part of the state. But, Amarillo does have a world class collection of Asian art in the museum.
I'll be in Lubbock for a visit this summer - whoopee! :? Then back to Dallas and San Antonio.
