dear st. peter,
today, when you get to work, there will be someone waiting for you. you'll notice her right away. she'll be the first in line. her name is gay. a fitting name for someone who was always so vibrant and went about spreading gaiety wherever she went. you'll have to forgive, as i did, her being a connecticut yankee. being a southerner myself, i saw in her that gracious southern belle charm. always impecably coiffed and attired, she still had that sly smile and wit. she was not above using a few guilded words, when circumstances dictated or talking about her son david. while were on the subject, your probably running a little short on guardian angels right now. if you have someone who's not to busy, could you send them down to keep an eye on david. gay would be the first to tell you, that he could use a little poke in the ribs every now and then.
although i only had the pleasure of her company a few times a year, i'd like to do a little testifying on her behalf. ya see, we attended the same church. it's called the "bring your own god church." i don't know if your familiar it. it's a place where some of us go, to find that deeper gospel type spirituality, that comes simply from congregating with friends and listening to music. i'm sure you'll see her sitting in the front row at most celestial concerts. please save her a seat if you get the chance, and please, forgive her, her flask. if you would'nt mind fixing her a toddy every now and then, i know she'd be grateful. she likes a little nip before a show. i'll end by saying that the spirit of caring just seemed to radiate from her and always gave me that warm cuddly feeling. i think i'll miss her hugs most of all.
if you'd be so kind, when you see her, give her a message from me:
you were much loved
you will be missed
the bar is closed
p.s. if you have some paints and canvass at hand i'm sure she'll make you a gift of an beautiful american gothic representation of the pearly gates.

That petite, perfect lady with the big smile and a wicked sense of humor ... she'll always be on the top step.

That was beautiful and so perfect! I will always picture Gay on the top step with a huge welcoming smile for everyone as they showed up. We sure will miss you, Gay...but somehow I think you'll always be there with us.
