Well it's Clearwater Festival weekend again. Reg and I are sailing on the sloop tomorrow, then settling in to see the likes of Vance Gilbert, Ellis Paul, Ani Difranco and PETE!
Hoping to see some blunderites there...

Can't get there this year, have been there before... it's gorgeous! And great family fun, terrific music. I have a video from long ago, maybe I'll watch that and be there in spirit with you. Great memories.

Clearwater was fantastic! The weather was ideal, the entertainment top notch and we managed to turn it into a mini-blunder event. Plus Pete was everywhere. Thanks to all Wyld has already named plus Darlene who traveled from Wisconsin to attend. Highlights for me were sets by Vance Gilbert and Holly Near. And hearing Pete perform Waist Deep In The Big Muddy and his new song Dr. King. Sundays closing ceremony was a celebration on the 35th anniversary of the launching of the sloop Clearwater (and it's being paced on the National Register of Historic Places) and Pete's 85th birthday. Many of the weekends performers gathered to sing river songs and there was a large cake. There was a slight delay in starting the closing ceremony because no one could find Pete. He finally arrived, tuned his 12 string ("you know you spend half your life tuning your 12 string, and the other half playing it out of tune"-Pete) Pete sang Sailing Down My Golden River solo, led The audience and assembled performers in an enthusiastic Sailing Up, Sailing Down among other songs. After the ceremony ended, Pete returned to the stage and said "This song was written by the captain of a slave ship" and I think I stopped breathing for a moment when I realised he was going to sing Amazing Grace. Well everyone was on their feet singing along and I just felt so fortunate to be a part of it all. Those on stage for the finale included Pete, Holly Near, Kristina Olsen, SONiA, Dar Williams, Toshi Reagon, Vance Gilbert, Pat Humphries, Sandy O, Tommy Sands, Captain Rick Nestler, The Lee Boys and many others. (apologies to anyone I've missed) It was the best weekend Reg and I have had in quite a while, we came home very tired but I think feeling a bit renewed. So, see you there next year?

Yup, it was a great day. Sherry is looking better after fighting her recent illness, the music was great, and it was a Guthrie-less mini-blunder, but Pete was there, so that's almost the same thing anyway. Wyldflower's grandaughter took exception a little when I told her that her grandmother was weird(in a good way), but sorta agreed with me when then I said that grandma wasn't REALLy weird, but her friends were. I used those friends in attendence(including myself) to prove the point.
