The Infamous 'Russian Tea Room' created in the 30-40's was closed last wk. end. //Across the street from Carnegie Hall, I'm sure it will be missed.

It's sad to see old landmarks close up. They do that alot anymore. Never been to the Russian Tea Room but it sounds like a neat place.

I was once inside the Russian Tea room, before they re-did it the last time. Very briefly, not to eat, just to look around and grab a menu. It was beautiful, but I am partial to anything Russian. I am VERY sad to see it go. Thanks for mentioning it.
PS - Another very cool, historic and relevant place to visit (along the same lines) is Frauces Tavern. I hope to get there some day.

I went to the RTR last October... and while it was interesting, it did live up to my expectation as nothing more than a tourist trap... the food was okay, but overpriced... and the service was quick.. quick... quick... so I'm not even sure what I ate, but I know I paid for it...

I guess it was nice to be a part of it for the moment...
as for Fraunces tavern, I don't think it's operating anymore... my old co-workers used to gather there regularly (at the bar!) on a friday night, and we tried to keep up the tradition on a yearly basis, but I was given to understand it's no longer an option... so we meet at Harry's at Hanover Square these days... the Guiness is just as good, but the freebie food is not as good as they used to give us at Fraunces... and computer people live on freebie food!
