it's worse than you think, wyld. tax day is only the 15th for most of the country. thanks to MA celebrating patriot's day today, anyone in the northeast that files to andover, ma has an extra day...which means i have to work tomorrow night again! been preparing taxes at jackson hewitt this tax season...it's been interesting, i'll say that!

ya mean I coulda done my taxes last nite, instead of the nite before??? LOL

(yeh, I know I waited long enough anyway!)

Next year I file as soon as I get my W-2's!

you could have done them tonight...as long as you had them to the post office by midnight...or e-filed by then. the lucky few to have an extra day are people in maine, massachusetts, rhode island, michigan and nys (north of rockland and westchester counties). i'm not sure how michigan got into that mix, but they're there.

I got certified by H&R Block about 13 years ago, never worked for them tho. My sister began working for JH last year, last night she worked til 11:55 PM! I think she's sleeping today.

I always do my taxes as soon as those pesky W-2s arrive. This year I was in such a hurry, had to do my kids' taxes also.. I totally forgot to include their SS#s on my own return. Needless to say, I got a "partial" refund of a whole $36.00. I've corrected the oversight and am awaiting the rest of my refund. Have it spent already: home remodeling, bills and some of it goes to my Arizona Adventure.

We don't rush anymore because we always end up paying since I've been working fulltime, which is a long time now. We did ours with TurboTax last week. First time we ever did that. We had to pay, but not as much as last year. In case we were wrong, does anyone know what prison we'd be most likely to go to?

pat..you should be fine. turbotax is a good program...just don't tell jackson hewitt i said that. it tends to cut down on their business. you probably owed less tax this year because most tax programs can find all the little things people miss. you'd only have to pay a penalty if there was a problem, but if you do end up in jail...we'll send you a file. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/wink.gif" width=15 height=15>

Turbo tax for federal is okay, but i've found bugs in the NY State version, that had I not double checked it myself, would have cost me in penalties for claiming invalid refunds on one return, and under-claiming deductions on another return... go have a kid in college!
Also, pet peeve, the Federal version assumes certain conditions when determining if you need to make estimated payments... the damn thing filled out and printed the forms and vouchers... never needed them, I'm strictly a W2 kinda guy..

oh, and wyld, thanks for the kind thoughts, but luckily I am NOT an accountant... just coulda been one had another path not opened up some 22 years ago...

and for the record, yesterday was my 12th anniversary at my current job! Damn!

thanks for the info, arnie. i've never used it myself (always did mine by hand) but was going by reviews from some of my co-workers. the software we used at work was really good and user friendly but i don't think you'll see it on a store shelf anytime soon. wouldn't be good for business.. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>
