I've asked George several times if he could move the church closer to Mystic. No luck so far, so I just have to go there like Shelley said, and make the best of it when I can physically be there.

Hey Kurt, without blundernuts like you the world would be a little colder. I read your devoted announcements every week and if I wouldn't be away a few thousand miles I'd try to make it there. Listen to some music, bring some cake, drink some coffee, talk to kindred hearts.

Hello Kurt sounds like you are the organizer for these here hootenannies. I was wondering if they are only on Thursday nights or do they have them sometimes on the weekends. I would like to come down from the North Country and get in on the fun at some point. Although I am somewhat rusty as I have not played for a while I would like to get back into it again. I play 6 string acoustic and mostly flatpick.

Oh, no, George organizes the Hoots. I run the soundboard and participate. I forget what George said about weekends but with several venues within 5 or 6 miles all bringing in national acts, it will be tough to get a (paying) audience on the weekend. Club Helsinki does an open mic on Tuesday and the Dreamaway has a Wednesday song circle. The open mike they are trying in Lee on Sunday seems to be fizzling out. I'll try to remember to ask George again but a flatpicked 6 string will be welcome any Thursday for sure. kurt...

Speaking from personal experience, not only do they welcome flatpicked or fingerpicked guitars, they also welcome fiddles, autoharps and...banjos! I suspect even an accordion or two would be welcome.

Kurt, thank you for the reply. I have been looking for such gatherings where I live here in NH and have not been able to find any. So I was thinking that it would be worth it to me to make the trip down their maybe once a month or when I can to get in on the fun. You all sound like a good bunch of people so naturally the idea came to mind. Anyhow, maybe in the near future I will venture down to your neck of the woods and sit in for a listen to see what it is all about and also introduce myself.

I'll keep an eye out for you. The church is a nice place with great people. Of course, Club Passim in Cambridge (which was called Club 57 when Arlo started out) is a lot closer drive. Have you looked at http://openmikes.org/ ? I'll bet that something is happening closer than you think! The one at Sit N Bull should be really good. kurt...
