Hope ya get better & well soon. Hope things go better for ya. Maybe the church show will have healing vibes.

That is so cool winning free Arlo tix. I never won any free tix but Arlo did help me win a KFC chicken dinner. It was many yrs ago before I was married to Mike & was living with my folks. A local radio channel was having a contest. They wanted to know what singer did THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND & who was his famous son. Even tho I wasn't an Arlo fan yet, I knew the answer & who Arlo was & liked the songs ALICES & CONO. So I called & was the first caller with the right answer & won a dinner from KFC. My dad picked up the dinner for me along with dinner for him & my mom. While eating the dinner I said if I ever got to meet that Arlo Guthrie guy, I'd have to thank him for helping win a free dinner. LOL! I had no idea that was a preview of my future life to come...

I heard about that contest. First prize was dinner at KFC, 2nd prize was breakfast, lunch, & dinner at KFC.

Hope all goes well, Terrie, & these docs get their diagnoses straight. Good luck with getting to the Church &, more importantly, with your health.

Ahh. Finally, I understand Cheryl's mystical connection to the Folkslinger, which before now has been inexplicable.

Cheryl, what a great story! Did you ever thank him (Arlo?). I guess every time you eat at KFC you think of Arlo and Woody, huh?
I would imagine we all have some interesting link to how we all ended up Arlo fans.

Vibes across the waves to you Terri! If I am ever forced by starvation to eat KFC I will think of your story of how you and Arlo first connected. ONLY in AMERICA!!
(That's a saying we have here)
Hope you make it to the Church O.K!!!

I don't know if this thread is correct, so I'll copy/paste it into the Get Me to The Church On Time (or similar) thread also.

I emailed George about my heart attack and not being able to make a dozen pans of brownies, so I'm bringing only 2 pans of brownies to hand out (rather than put on the menu) and I'll donate a few dozen bagels like I did last May.

Sorry to all the brownie lovers here... there will be about 3 dozen rather than a dozen dozen. If you want to make a donation, that's fine... or just enjoy them, either way.

Maybe next year I'll finally get those brownies on the menu!

Just got back from the new cardiology office and I'm SO happy I reemed out that other doc and he "fired" me from the practice! This guy I saw today is like a real doc, caring, warm, friendly, explains things in plain language.

He told me that there's no such thing as a "clean" or a "clear" artery and that arterior streaks of plaque have been found in the hearts of kids dead at age 10.

He also explained that to have cleaned out and stented the partially blocked arteries when I had the cath done would have caused more damage that they potentially would have had to deal with.

Further, he told me that it's the 30% blockages that can become nightmares basically overnight, not those that are 70%. He said it's the 30s that tend to act up suddenly and the heart can't compensate, while the 70s... the heart's "used to." Also, he said there's always blockage and there's no difference in mortality between 30 and 70. That those with 70s get closer scrutiny, more tests and therefore are healthier!

Now, the smoke, cholesterol and genetic factors:

Smoking, at least for me, was probably the number 1 factor (combined with genetics), although my overall cholesterol profile's not horrible (173). The LDL (bad) cholesterol is a little higher than he'd like, however... here's the kicker... the HDL(good) cholesterol's what they want me to work on... get it up 10 points and I'll be in a lot safer place.

Overall, though, he gave me his blessings for a trip to the Berkshires! Just reminded me not to lift anything over 5 lbs (guess I'll have to let other's have the pleasure of taking out the garbage!).

Terrie~~~~ Good news! I sure hope ya laughed right in the Dr.'s face, when he 'Fired' ya! Its so aggravating when ya get a Dr. who seems not to give a hoot. When you're lucky enough to find one who really CARES, gives (me) a whole different out look on the entire profession. The ones who really CARE, are 'OLD SCHOOL Drs' regardless of age. Continue healing! I smoke, & REAAALY need to quit, so how are you doin it?? & Good Luck!

No choice, cold turkey. After the 2nd or 3rd day, the nicotine craving was totally gone. By the end of the week, I was used to the "void" the rituals left behind... now I don't miss it much at all.

Lance is quitting cold turkey as of this past Sunday.
