Had a wonderful long weekend in Traverse City. Absolutely gorgeous weather, gorgeous scenery, etc. The hotel was right on the beach overlooking Grand Traverse Bay. Lovely. And so needed--John's sister died last week, so he had an emergency trip to Dallas for a funeral. Very sad, but not unexpected. She was fighting a similar fight as Todd's. She was only 50--but had cirrhosis of the liver and hepatitis C due to heavy drinking. Even though she'd given up the booze, her system was just too compromised. She fought as long as she could, and did her best to straighten her life out. I'm sad for her and her family. John held it together pretty well, but it was very hard on him.

We needed the renewal of a short trip. It helped. Any spare blundervibes sent my husband's way would be appreciated. (Know it's not the place, but I only have a few minutes to spare).

Just got home tonight from bringing my grandson to his Dad at their new home in Colorado... My daughter and granddaughter will be following in about two weeks, driving cross-country. Tal is absolutely thrilled with the changes. They live in Peyton, which is on the high prairie, about 40 miles from Pikes Peak. So they have prairie grasses, tumbleweed and cactus in their yard and a marvelous view of the mountains.

Before heading west, Tal and I hiked a bit in the Adirondacks, near Mt. Marcy, the highest point in NYS (elev. 5,344) and then three days later we were hiking in the Garden of the Gods, near Manitou Springs (elev. approx 8,000) ... At age 8, he doesn't quite get the elevation thing but his house is on relatively flat prairie, but is at an elevation 1,000 feet higher than Mt. Marcy! (well... it impressed me, anyway)
