My dad always liked "You Are My Sunshine" too. He would sing it sometimes & sometimes used to sing an old Slovak song. One Christmas some yrs ago he sang the Slovak song & played it on harmonica & I ended up playing along on autoharp. I got Mike to film it. He hasn't sung it in along time tho...

Lily Marlane (he wants it played at his graveside, immediate family, no preachers funeral, along with Taps, he's a retired U.S. Army Major) and Queen of the Silver Dollar for my Dad. He's ninety in December and I'm SO lucky to still have him.

Blunderhugs to all who have lost a Dad they were close to.

Dear Dad,

I write tonight, a night mom said was really cold 54 years ago tonight.

This night, she said, she anguished in the car. Freezing cold, and here I came. Me on the on, and her teeth in the leather of your ‘53 red Corvette (sorry about that, dad, but it makes a great memory for me!)

Now, that many years later, I am here, dad, with kids, a job, and a mortgage that we’re trying to keep afloat with the dream you gave me to give to them. Dad, I miss you so much tonight.

As a well known lawyer, dad, I am sorry for the time I got arrested and had to ask you to bail me out. I was a kid who had a big dad, only thinking how lucky I was, and never stopping to think that I might be putting you in risk. I never thought about the consequences for you. I really believed we lived in a bubble, that is how much I believed you.

As a law school professor, dad, I am sorry for all the times I challenged the process you as lawyers had. I do now realize you had to go by the process and now respect that. How to institute change would have been one area, Dad, which I would have loved to work with you on side by side, especially now that it appears we have an authentic opportunity for change.

Thank you, dad, for raising me to respect the constitution, to be careful about the political system, and to respect all people. I got that from you. I am doing ok without you, but wish you were here, especially tonight. I know you would be wishing me a happy birthday if you were here.

Happy Birthday!!

You were born in a Corvette? How cool is that!!

A friend of mine has a vintage one and we went riding once and my first impression was it felt like I was laying down, so I guess it was as good a place as any! I do wonder what she did with her feet! =)

I have always been a Camero girl myself! More room but there is always a hump in the middle of the backseat! Fitting I suppose! heh!

Stephanie got it so right on the other thread. I'm sure your dad was proud of you, and he probably understood the rough patches more than he let on.

Just to clarify, I did not make it all the way out in the Corvette because I had a little issue with the umbilical cord, but I tried!
