Will a knish do instead of a latke ??

actually, no.

the 'purpose' of the Latke is that it is fried in Oil. The knish is baked.
The Oil is the prop that ties the Latke to the "miracle" of the oil that burned for 8 days. Hence, we also indulge in Jelly Donuts (as I did last night! yum!), since again, we have something fried in OIL!
(Now, you might conjecture, that if we fried Bush in hot Oil, he would also be part of the Chanukah miracle... and indeed, if you could only do one thing in this world, frying his ass in oil would be a perfect commemoration)

so get yourself a hand grater, a couple of taters, some flour, an egg, and an onion, plus some salt. Grate the taters, the onion (grating a piece of your finger only adds to the flavor!!), add in some flour and an egg and the salt, mix by hand. Let it sit a few minutes while you heat up a pan with about 1/2 inch of oil. Drop the batter in like pancakes, flatten 'em out, and let them cook to golden (or near burnt if you like 'em that way), and then remove to drain on paper towel.
Eat with homemade applesauce, or even better, sour cream!

sorry, no more Jelly donuts... I got this batch at Zaro's, and they were quite frankly the best i've had in a long time!

somehow that seems unfair....I mean, I MEAN I'm the fronthalf, and you're the backhalf, so wouldn't you think that I should be in charge of INgesting jelly donuts and you would be in charge of.........well, you know.

b) I prefer matzoh meal to flour in my latkes - but that's what makes the world go 'round!
