Just made it back to Mystic from NJ a little while ago, for the time being at least, in order to take care of a few practical things, like paying my mortgage and stuff like that. Dad was discharged from the hospital last night and is back in the nursing home, and hospice care is being set up. At last report, he was fast asleep, which is a very good thing. Alzheimers is an especially nasty disease, and my Dad does not have long for this world. At this point, we are just hoping that what ever time he has left, as well as his passing, will be peaceful.

Thank you, Everyone, for all your love, thoughts, vibes, and prayers. They are deeply appreciated, and I love you all!

Judy I am sending uplifting vibes to you. I cared for people with Alzheimers and other Dementia's for 9 years so I know how hard it is. I had my own 89 year old Dad assessed earlier this year as I could see what was going on even tho my family didn't want to.
After 6 years in Horticulture I have decided my experience with Dementia could help others (it has made it so much easier for my family).
Just before my retreat a week ago an offer just fell into my lap. It happened that the interveiw was close to where I was staying. I have to do a couple of study units to update my qualifications but have been offered a job doing respite care in peoples homes and in several Cottages. It is so importent for carers to have a break as Judy well knows.
I am resigning from my Horticulture job on Monday to take this renewed path.
I really wish I could be there with you Judy. You are in my thoughts, just pretend you can feel my arms around you.
If any of you know someone who has a family member or friend with a Dementia and they are caring for them, I can tell you that just an offer to lend a hand or just sit with the person they are caring for even just for a few hours, so they can have some time on their own, will be very welcomed.

Your Dad is SO lucky to have someone like you Judy. I took care of many people in an Aged Care Home whose families just could not deal with it and rarely visited. But the one's who did, even if their Mom or Dad didn't recognize them, still made life a little better for their Mom or Dad and themselves. Take care Love and Hugs from Deb Louise.

Louise, thank you so much, not just for your words of comfort to me, but, speaking for other people in my situation, for the career change you have planned, as well! I do feel your hug, and everyone else's here, too! Wow!
