Happy Halloween everybody! Barley Beagle is going to be Zorro today! (I've run out of kids to dress.)

JohnC loves to do the door and see all the little goblins. He and Barley can handle it. (Sherry - hiding upstairs sounds like a plan to me.)

We live in a rural area on top of a hill ... and no young kids nearby. We do have a carved pumpkin on the porch for our own enjoyment.

I must admit I like Larry's idea--but we don't have any bears. (Although a deer scared the c*** out of my husband the other morning--went to let the dog out around 4:30 a.m. just as a big buck was crossing in front of the porch. This time of year, they get a little aggressive--he blew at John and lowered his antlers. Both dog and John backed right up and shut the door. (Sadie dog--german shepherd--is real brave INSIDE the house and when barking at things much smaller than her.)

And now all is quiet. Sheriff Woody is asleep on the couch, Yu-Gi-Oh passed out laying on the heater and the dad is snoring keeping the pharoah and Batman Beyond up. About 12 pounds of candy sprawled across the dining room. All is right in the world for a moment.

We had lots of "older" (high school age) trick-or-treaters--is the economy that bad that they can't buy a candy bar???

My daughter (12) is the only one of my kids at home who went out last night. My 14-year-old handed out the candy, but now Annie's gonna have to hide her stash REALLY well to protect it from the chocoholics who live here! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

Michael was wheezing too much last night and so didn't go very far for long before coming home to sort out his haul. We didn't have many kids coming around, which was good since I was the one stuck answering the door while "trying" to study for an exam.

We also have 2 nights of candy-collecting here which is the town's way of attempting to control (or prevent) vandalism on Mischief Night. This year it rained and was very cold the "first" night of Halloween, so we only had last night.

Once Michael sorted out his stash, he donated most of it to the local ER cos he spends so much time there, and to the Peds department. He's been doing this for 4 years now and it's become "tradition" around here.

He only kept a few lollypops and Twizzlers.

Unfortunately, he's not doing too well right now and we had him examined by the school nurse and then the doc tonight, back on steroids... hopefully he can avoid being admitted, but we'll know over the next day or two.

The 2 teenagers didn't go out last night as they usually do. Well, one did, the 19 year old took Michael out for 1/2 hour before going to Shocktoberfest. The 17 year old works there also and she got stuck having to work last night while her brother was a "guest" there. Tonight they both have to work, it's FINALLY the last weekend and they're exhausted... it's been every weekend (4 nights) since mid-September!

I took eight teenagers trick or treating and I figure it is better to keep them out of trouble that way then not, I did have the pleasure to send them to one house about 1/4 mile of the road, way back up in the mountain, by themselves, where, while the lady did give them candy, she asked "What in the world are you doing way up here without a flashlight, don't you know there is a bear lives around here?, They ran all the way back down.....kids.....We then had a party in my haunted house, (my dad's house was gutted by an arsonist and with a little work it became an excellent haunted house), They got candy thay had fun and no one got hurt, what could be better?

Sorry to hear about Machael, I hope he has a full recovery, it can happen,, but it seems he has already learned to see the important things in life already.
