Rob -- It's an incredible story, and it's great to hear you have come as far as you have. I feel compelled to note that, on this day:

-- in 1815, Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born
-- in 1945, Neil Young was born
-- in 1982, Anne Hathaway was born, and Lech Walesa was released from prison

as always, among other significant events.

Rob, first of all... welcome back! You've been missed. I am amazed that you took the time to write on the boards... I'm thinking that as you remember more and more, a journal of some sort would be a wonderful, cathartic thing to write.

You are truly a miracle! A busted aorta... and you lived to get to the OR where they could patch you up. That's just truly amazing. And a stroke with no debilitating problems from it.

WOW!!!!!!

Ya know there are less stressful ways to get high, old buddy.

Glad you're back. Now help us get the brain cell back from Larry. He's Bogarting again!

And if you ask nicely, Arlo may let you borrow his stick.

agnes. It's really good to hear from you too. btw: I just loved the post card you sent, where you had your mnt. friends sign it to. I'd say a little thing like that cheered me up that day. But it was a big thing to me. I kept telling my wife Sue, look at this neat post card I got from Agnes. She had her friends sign it... I guess that was around the time, I was starting to come around? ntm: my memory was starting to kick back in. I knew immediately who you were, ( a friend from arlonet ) and that in it'self was a great feeling. Tell your friends thank-you and I'd love to meet them.

It's great to see everyone here. Sincerely.

Funny story Len. I was obviously heavily medicated thru most of my ordeal. Oddly enough when the hospital in Vt. told me I'd be leaving in the a.m. to be admitted to an Intence Physical Therapy Unit in my hometown, I was extatic. Then they went on to say, a few of my Drs. would be around to go over my pain management. ( getting a tad paranoid I'm thinking 'what kind of rehab is this')? But the Dr. came in, and suggested they were upping my pain meds, as physical therapy was gonna be hell on wheels, and most people couldn't do it, without the meds. Didn't think much of it. Next a.m. the ambulence guys, put me on a stretcher, nurse gave me Mophine, next thing I know I'm riding accross the Ferry ( Lake Champlain )

The next a.m. I took my Morphine, was 1/2 way into a dreamy cup of Joe, and these two Army gals ( who I learned to love ) had me doing exercises, like I hadn't done since my freshman yr. in high school ft. ball. ( three days later they had me taking my first steps)

But that aint the part of the story. ( IF you can't be good, be long, someone said ). This one old nurse, everytime I would get my meds, she would look at me, watch me intencely.... Give me more than one sip of water.... Then she'd say. Did you get it down? And I'd give her this look. ( like my pain scale is a 9 after 1.5 hrs. of intence therapy ) Like get WHAT DOWN... And she'd say, well we don't want anyone hording medication now do we?

I never said anything to this nurse.... But it was like the part in Alices's. Like "Nurse Nina, do you think, do you actually believe, that I would get in a car accident, JUST TO GET INTO YOUR HOSPITAL so I could horde medication.

My wife Sue thought it was funny, as everytime ol Nina would pass meds, she did everything but stick a flashlight down my throat to make sure I took the pills.... It was a ritual we got used to.

* aye Terry: ya, my cardiovascular surgeon told my wife, that only 1 in 1000 ( or 10,000) live as long, or live at all, with such an invasive tear or a ruptured aorta. ( it was 3 hrs. from the time of the accident till I got to Burlington.) I suppose it is cathardic to write about it. My brother tells me, my auto-biography is yet on hold, only to add another chapter... ;-)
