"it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick"?

That was sort of my local hospital outpatient eye surgery experience on Friday...three small ports were poked into my eye with a large needle for surgical access to the inside of my eye. They removed the vitreous, corrected the retina problem, and replaced the volume with a liquid made for that purpose and a silicone oil bubble that will help press my retina back in place. They used a general anesthetic, so I (gratefully!)don't remember a thing. My eye is totally red, swollen and sore, but I have a bit of vision back today. I've been told it will be a couple of months before my vision will be normal again in that eye. I'm feeling pretty good, and under strict doctor's orders to be a couch potato...I'm not even allowed to bend over. I can feel the stitches, but they will get better and dissolve on their own. So far so good, and I know the eye and surrounding area is healing because it's starting to itch. I'm really glad it's over!
