One of my favorite writers died today. Tony Hillerman was the author of the Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee novels, which were based on the Navajo Reservation. He will be missed.

Oh, no! I hadn't heard! He was one of my favorite authors, too! I love Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn! Hillerman's books weren't just great mysteries, but I always learned a lot from them, too. He wrote with so much respect for the Navajo and Hopi traditions. I will miss him!

It's a sad day in Window Rock and in this corner of Dallas, too.

Gov. Richardson ordered flags to be at half-staff today in memory/honor of him. He died here in ABQ at Presbyterian Hospital, right down the road from where he taught at UNM.

Joe Leaphorn's humanity and wisdom will be sorely missed...

As will Jim Chee's endearing mix of cluelessness and spirtuality punctuated by moments of keen insight.

That's such a perfect description of Jim Chee! I couldn't help loving the guy!
