Bridgett - çök teşekkür ederim! Öptüm! (not sure if Turkish letters will come out right on the forum, but figured I'd give it a whirl)

It worked, I could find it in the online dictionaries.
Birsey degil and Öptüm to you too. I can't get these little hooks and arrows on my german keyboard.
The news last night reported about 2 terrible explosions in Istanbul with 16 dead and about 150 wounded. They said probably a terrorist attack. How are things with you?

We're fine here - the bombs were on the other side of town. These are crazy times here - bombings; the constitutional court deciding on whether or not to ban the ruling political party; the military brass accused of planning a coup. August may be a time to just duck and cover until it all passes. :?

I'm glad that you are alright. I know it's not the right place to post, but maybe a quick answer will be ok. What's going to happen if the ruling party will be banned. Will this be better for the country?
Take care and "duck well"
Brigitte

Good question. No one knows for sure what will happen if they are banned. At the least, countrywide protests since they won a 46% vote in the last election. Worst case scenario will be massive political and social upheaval with a possible military coup.
But, military coups have happened here before when things got out of control. The military took over for a year or so and once things quieted down they have always held elections and passed the country back to the elected party.
The worldwide recession is expected to hit here in the next 2 years, which will add even more tension into the mix. Everyone is waiting to see what will happen. Interesting times..... :?

Thanks for the answer. Hopefully the times will be interesting without being dangerous and too confusing.
