I had mentioned this earlier, but wanted to open a thread about it now that my cousin has started a web site.

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/landrydurant

If you have time, visit her web site. And if you want to send her some electronic love, prayers, good vibes - it is pretty easy to register and send your love to her and her family in her guest book.

A few weeks ago I learned my young cousin Skye has stage IV metastatic melanoma. She and her husband have three children. The third was born last week - 3lb, 9oz Landry Mearl was brought early so Skyes' treatment could begin.

I have struggled to understand this from both a physical and spirtual perspective. Her doctors gave her six months to live...I'd give her more if I could. My wife found a report published in the April 20 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology about a clinical study of Gleevec. This product has forced metastatic melanoma into remission for the first time.

In my varied searches for answers I found a quote from a man way ahead of his time, five hundred years ago he said, "As a well spent day brings happy sleep, so life well used brings happy death."

We all share the fact that our days on earth will end. We can reach greater fulfillment at that end, through a life well spent.

Thanks for reading this story. Your prayers and good vibes will be appreciated.

Doug

Thanks so much for all the love everyone.

It would mean so much to Skye if you could post a note to her and Ryan on her guest book. She had her ninth dose today and she could use all the love and vibes we can muster.

Thanks again,
Doug

Skyes second round of treatment begins. Here is the latest post from her web site...

As I get ready for treatments to begin again tomorrow I have thinking about all of the wonderful people who have been lifting me up in prayer. To my family, close friends, my church family, my Mt. Mourne family, the nicu staff, and all of the perfect strangers- I cannot put into words how much you all mean to me. On the days that I struggle to go on you all have lifted me up and remind me what strength I have. Getting through this has been easier with all of you and I am ever so grateful for all of you. My husband is my everything and without him I wouldn't be able to see the lite at the end of the tunnel each time I have to go through yet another procedure, or treatment. I love you Ryan! My children keep me motivated and they are so special.

I pray for strength this week and the ability to maintain my health to get through another 9 treatments. All of your words of support with be in my heart and I will give it my all.

Love, Skye

Thanks for all the support from my blunder-friends here.

Doug
