If you want to hear an interesting "folk" tale, head to Hall's store and take a look at the taxidermy on the walls. There are several examples of an interesting beast known as the "swamp swivel" - and the locals will tell you all about it.

Say - isn't it about time that people did a spoken-word "album" (CD, podcast, whatever) of folk tales of various sorts? I'd hate to think folk singing is being preserved, but lose the spoken-word aspect of things.



Disclaimer: I am, somehow, distantly related to the Halls, according to my Dad. All I remember of the place is that they used to make great doughnuts, on demand - when you dropped by and ordered a dozen or so, that's when they made 'em. If they still do that, then that's another reason to stop by.
