That was going to be my next question, Pat. A demo or CD is a basic requirement. The 9:30 is from my time -- a veritable Institution now, apparently. The best time to drop by (back in my day) was at Happy Hour, when the People Who Make Things Happen tend to be around.

One of the things that makes D.C. so good is the number of incredible musicians, both living thereabouts and through town playing. People know their stuff -- and truly appreciate music when they hear it. It's more laid back than NY in some ways: a little less about impressing others and making a name for one's self than about loving (and living) music for its own sake. Baltimore is also supposed to be a good place for beginings. When we all got into trouble for having Way Too Much Fun in the early '80's, many of us moved to Baltimore -- so there are some sharp ears there, too.

Muffy, they cut a three song demo about a year ago when they first formed, and it served the purpose of getting them gigs here on LI and in the clubs in NYC that book unknown original bands. It's nothing they want to send out now, though. It's not even all the same people. It's all a learning process and we're all starting to see that being on LI presents some interesting challenges. Since, once you've got established locally, the next step would seem to be branching out a bit, the natural boundries of LI makes it a little harder. All clubs want bands to bring a following, of course, and being here, it's like..the following thins out very, very abruptly once you hit water. It's not like you can fan out gradually too easily. Anyway, this year's goal is to try to find management that can help and/or find their way onto the college circuit. They've been offered plenty of management that can book them into the same places they can get into on their own.<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

BTW, Rob says that the 9:30 Club has had some heavy hitters there and he doesn't think they'd be too interested in them, but that won't stop them from sending a demo, I'm sure.

pat, that's why i suggested dc, whfs and the 9:30. they don't care about famous. they care about good.
