• Amazon.com - From the folks who practically invented e-commerce. A huge, multi-category auction site.
• Auctions.com - General merchandise auction site, many categories
• CNET Auctions - Computers, software and related merchandise
• eBay - The mother of all online auctions. If it exists, someone is trying to sell it on eBay.
• Egghead.com - Surplus and reconditioned computers and related products
• eWanted.com - Reverse auction. Buyer posts a wanted item and sellers bid for the sale.
• Lycos Auctions - Lycos is in the auction business, too. All categories
• Sotheby's - This is where you go to bid on old masters and the like, but if that's too rich for your blood try the following:
• Sothebys.amazon.com - Art and collectibles for the masses
• Ubid - Auction site specializing in brand name products
• What the Heck is That? - A free online auction and classified community, with message boards and free pages for members. Bills itself as the "funnest auctions site". Looks like it might be true.
• Yahoo Auctions - One of the big three auctions, along with eBay and Amazon

Auction Services:

• Auction Watch - Search, news, tools and discussion forums
• Bidder's Edge -A full service auction site with search and services
• GoTo Auctions - Everything you'll ever need to know about online auctions, services to help you buy and sell and learn.
• PayPal - A free service which allows you to pay with credit cards, if the seller is a member, and accept credit card payments without having a merchant account. This is an invaluable tool for buyers and sellers.
