Turbine wind farms are horrible. They kill untold amount of raptors (birds), other birds, bats and other living beings. There are other types of wind machines, besides these massive spinning blades. I wish the people who put those things up would wake up and pay attention... or care.

Tried to get back here sooner and got tied up with some family things and genealogy.

Anyway, I have done some research on this in the past and this was not everything I found, of course. I have even written to my governor as we are about to go to total wind turbines across the entire state and this state has a massive Bald Eagle population. I got no response, of course.

Anyway, these are just a few of the alternative types I have found and I really like these "trees". I think they look cool.

it says the wind "tree" thing can provide 3.1 KW, but over what period of time?

i’d also like to see the break down of how it would pay for itself ($36,500) in a few years.

it is a little lean on details.

looking for something more comprehensive

All you have to do is watch interviews with the men who are hired by the power companies to pick up the bird bodies and that says it all. One works at least 8 hours a day driving back and forth from one turbine to another, picking up eagles all day because he says the companies really don't want it to be known just how many are killed. Yep, says it all to me. These scientific sites that probably get a salary for saying it doesn't really kill that many and I don't believe them. Go on any Eagle or raptor page such as Eagle On Alliance and see what they are saying.

okay, the links i have already posted go into various things including better placement of turbines (avoiding likely migratory routes and such) and changes in design to reduce such incidents.

they also go into various other sources of avian casualties as well.

according to what i have read, i understand that cell towers (communication towers) are a source of many bird casualties. millions per year, i understand. here too they are trying to make the towers more bird friendly.
