I literally "blundered" into this forum while looking for lyrics/music to My Peace, which I had the great good fortune to hear at the end of Arlo's late might set at Clearwater this June past (cost us an extra hour getting out of the parking lot, but it was worth it.

ANYWAY, have blundered here, I have a song which I'd like to put past people here - it goes well here in Denmark where I live, but I'm a bit nervous about how folk- especially, Guthrie-music fans will receive it. Soooo, with no more ado than a blush  here is the text:

[Woody Guthrie, if he was alive today,
would he have written a song about
the whole planet instead of a single land?
If the lieu of anything better, I tried it myself:]

¾ Dear Woody, forgive me / when you hear what I've done,
I thought if you knew / where we're stranded today,
deep in Big Muddy / with a dark setting sun
that maybe, just maybe, I said maybe just maybe
you'd have wan-ted to say:
4/4
Ch.: The Earth is your Earth. / The Earth is my Earth.
The blue mother who gave us our birth.
From the highest mountain to the deepest ocean:
The Earth was made for everyone, every living thing

We have one mother, we have one father;
therefore, we all are sisters and brothers.
We have but one Earth, we have no other.
The Earth was made for everyone, every living thing

Ch.:

Many a day now, I've been counting
all the garbage in her crystal fountains.
My heart is pounding - my anger's mounting:
The Earth was made for everyone, every living thing.

Bridge:
The fact is / our blue mother bee-longs to no one,
No person, no nation, no cor-per-a-tion!
She belongs to herself and all of her children
Every living thing including you and me
Ch.:

PS - hope I didn't overstep any un-written rules with this!

Welcome to the site Chuck! And thanks for sharing! In all sincerity.....I LOVE IT :D

And I think Woody would approve - I believe you are correct that Woody's stuff has transcended nationalism into global realization and actualization. Thanks again!

Peace.
