I agree. Even in the most positive light , hard not to feel this way.

what is really sad is when the lie, repeated enough times, becomes "truth"!

I wonder if a true Libertarian party could emerge free of tea bagging and militia gun bullshit. One that respected the Constitution for its effort but didn't hold every single word and phrase written 225 years or so ago to be sacred. Maybe it is the name, Libertarian, that is the problem?

You know, with a serious discussion about Post Cold War investment in the future. I mean I hear a lot about the budget and shutting down America and people not receiving their social security and gay marriage and all. I just say to myself, why is the government involved in regulating marriage and personal beliefs? Why are we building expensive stealth aircraft for no apparent reason? Why isn't the Defense Department not open game for spending cuts? Why are we not discussing how the government spends on Research in Medicine and Engineering and why are we not discussing how the People get a return on these investments? I mean IBM and eventually Apple profited immensely from the investment in sending a man to the moon. Who payed for that research? I know there were talented people who took advantage of those investments and made incredible products. The fundamental research was paid for by tax payers. So instead of our research funding being hidden in the Defense Department or other "special interest groups" within the government, why isn't it more out in the open? I mean, maybe I am blind, but I see 80% of the budget being entitlements and defense and defense being a black hole where the money goes. Then we hear endless debates and posturing on the remaining 20% about cutting "social programs" etc etc and wow.Let's cut open the sacred cow and see what we can really do without?

I am soooo with you on this! Why is defense spending "untouchable" even though Gen'l Gates offered to take a significant cut?

Yes, spending needs to be cut, but NOT where it hurts the needy.

I dunno. We didn't even slap the hands of the criminals that caused our financial crisis (unless you count the cash slapped in their hands in the way of bonuses). We cut taxes and other obligations for those that make it above the UMC line. One of the most potent political voices of our times is a comedian. We have taken the back seat in supporting those who are really fighting and dying for democracy. I say we because we are the people.

What the hell is going on?
