Welcome to the site Tempo :D Without knowing your age or your understanding of history (of the 60's), it's hard to know where to start. I think I'd refer you to "Alice's Restaurant", the song AND the film, and their significance to and impact on the anti-Vietnam War movement. And "this guy", (as you referred to Arlo) has continued to be and is still socially, culturally and politically relevent to a whole lot of folks all over the planet. After looking at "Alice's....", maybe you could look into "The Significance of the Pickle" :? Good luck!!!

I'd say watch the Alice's Movie and listen to the album. Also read up on the 60's. Sounds like school these days is more fun than it was than I went. And went when that stuff was new lol. Good luck and hope your project turns out well...

If you check out the Arlonet homepage, you will see that there is a section with lyrics listed.

A fair number of us here are the culture Arlo impacted. So you've come to the horse of course.

Ask questions. I think folks here will answer them. If you want an essential moment, IMHO, look up the trial of the Chicago 7. There is a transcript of Arlo's testimony.

I was born in a magical time where I did not have to register for the draft. Not many US males that are alive today can say that. When I turned 18 (1976) there was no draft. Arlo played a big part in making that happen. They fixed the problem pretty quickly though and all my male kids have had to register...

I had to register, as I turned 18 in march of 1975. I bought a map of Canada the same day.......6 months later, there was no more draft.

Tempo: It might help us to help you if we know what songs you have heard and what they say to you. The gray bars at the left of the screen might help--specifically, "Discography" and "Lyrics."

I hope you're not restricted to years that begin "196..." because for people who lived then, the cultural experience called "the '60s" extended well into the 1970s--at least until 1973 or 74 and maybe later ... maybe until now.

For some perspective from now back to then, you might also listen to "In Times Like These," which Arlo wrote in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina was going on.

Gotcha! Just checked my time compass (the one I got from Jack Sparrow), and it confirms your direction. BTW, I actually DID google "celery time", and there are something like 12,000 hits.......and that was the day after tomorrow.......
