Only 72...so sad. I met her at a party once. A very nice lady with an incredible voice who really made a difference.

Vaya con Dios, Mary Travers.

So very sad! I'm glad that I did get a chance to meet her a few years ago.

I saw her solo shows several times during the '70s/'80s and they were just great. I couldn't help tonight thinking of her adaptation of Edna St. Vincent Millay's "The Conscientious Objector," which begins, "I shall die, but that is all I shall do for death."

oh, beautiful poem...

"I will not tell him the whereabouts of my friends
nor of my enemies either.
Though he promise me much,
I will not map him the route to any man's door.
Am I a spy in the land of the living,
that I should deliver men to Death?
Brother, the password and the plans of our city
are safe with me; never through me
Shall you be overcome."

I was lucky enough to see them a few times back home. At the folk festival and some small coffe houses. I remember the first time I heard them, I was young and my uncle played Puff for me, I was a fan then and there. She was great and will be missed in the folk world but memories live on.

I'm so sad to have to wake up and hear this news. My girlfriend and I went to see PP&M at Bethel Woods a few months ago. Sadly, due to her failing health, Mary was unable to attend. She was then and will continue to be sorely missed.

I just found this beautiful rendition of I Shall Be Released performed by Mary Travers, Cass Elliot and Joni Mitchell (3 of my all time favorite female vocalists) on youtube. I can't believe I've never seen or heard this before.

RIP Mary.

I just heard the news and am so sad. I've listened to Mary since I was a little kid. She was a big influence on me as a harmonizer. She's someone I'll always hear.....

Saw her in a solo performance on Long Island years back. I'll never forget the way she totally (and peacefully) talked down a heckler in the audience. She will be missed.
