Definitely fried okra. Stewed okra be .... slippery.

Turnip greens over spinach? Ok. Yeah if they throw a bit of salt meat in with it.

Mashed potatoes and gravy natch.

like i said, i haven't had fried okra...but a little of it thrown into a stew or soup (so long as it had tomato in it) i don't recall being too horrible. :)

I cannot be certain ( there were buds involved) , but I think it was goat's head soup. Good ole Jamaica.

It is. But steamed okra is not. You get the little tiny pods, no larger than 2.5 or maybe 3 inches at the most. Cut off some the top part but DO NOT cut into the pod. Steam them, then slather with butter. Not slippery or slimy. Sweet and tasty.

oh! you know what else is good? (if you like this kind of thing)
pesto genovese (i make mine with pine nuts and sometimes with walnuts too is pretty good and plenty of garlic)
anyway, put that and some of those black pitted olives (that are packed in water) sliced, those egg shaped mozzarella balls (what are they called?) that are packed in water cut in bite size chunks, and halved grape tomatoes, and hot pasta (i like those spirals for this) mixed together...if you are starved half to death, that is pretty good :)

on pine nuts though...one day my mom picked up a big old clunky pine cone and pulled from within the petals a pine nut showing me, "look, a pine nut!" i don't think i was even five years old and i don't even know where this was and i didn't see another pine nut for at least another fifteen years but when i did, i sure as hell remembered them...
they have pine nuts in the store?? :)

anyhow!
