Pigs are apparently the only species able to have more than only one virus at the same time, but it seems to be the first time there is a mix of swine, human and avian virus.
There are obviously new means to detect the different genes of a virus and spontaneous mutations but perhaps there are also genetics manipulations.
We know the cause of this flu ( mixed virus ) but not really the origin.

All the virus has to do to get mixed species markers is to mutate from a bird virus to one a pig can get, and then mutate again to go to a human...this is what flu virus does. it's constantly mutating, which is why scientists are always studying the current version that's going around...next year, there will be totally different versions of flu. It can mutate just going from one person to another.

It was interesting to hear on NPR today that people can't catch it from pigs, but pigs can catch it from humans......

If people can't catch it from pigs, how do people get it?

Pigs are mixers. Maybe pork prohibitions make sense and some cultures have known that for a long time.

Well that explains McCartney's 'Granddad' in Hard Day's Night. He is Steptoe.

PigBirds?
As a biotechnologist, it was always my secret dream to engineer pigs with a pair of wings, to answer the ageold question: Will they fly?
Someone beat me to it?
Dang! :(
(So?... Do they?...)

Several schools were closed here. Now they're open. Seems than no one quite knows how to go about dealing with this.

Best result of the PigBird Flu for us: the plane to Newark on Saturday was only half full (or half empty, as you prefer). But the airlines wised up by Monday; they canceled and consolidated flights, and getting home took 10 hours instead of 4 (6 sitting in the airport). Oh, well, it was a great flight up!

Guitar man:

A co-worker of mine hit a pig while driving his Honda.
