Starting on Monday January 17, 2011 you will no longer be allowed to log in with your username. Instead you will need to use the e-mail address and your password to log in to the forums. At the moment - you can use either - so you may wish to try using your e-mail address to log in so you don't have any problems on Monday when e-mail log in becomes the only valid log in method.

Thanks, Dave...

Now is also a good time to verify that you have the right email address in your profile.

If you aren't sure where to check what email address you used, go to "User Control Panel" (button at top of this page), then to "Profile," then to "Edit Account Settings"

i don't know what that means

It doesn't give a different option. When you log back in use your email instead of agnes where it says Username.

Yesterday, I logged off, and then logged in again with my email address in the UserID box. It worked the first time I did that.

Today. I logged off, and attempted the same as above, but it would not accept my email address as a valid UserID. So I'm logged in again under my UserName.

No worry. I will see if I can get one of the moderators to help you.

Being a moderator does not necessarily signify 'techie-ness'...but thanks for the vote of confidence! I just know how to close a thread, move a post, and delete those annoying people who spam us (not happening near so often any more!)

I just tried again, and it won't accept my email address as my userID... so I'm still here via my username. I'll try on my home computer later today.

Actually, the thing that pops up saying you entered the wrong password is a result of the latest wave of forum spammers. They have bots scan the forum for usernames and then just try random passwords trying to get in. So far I have things in place to keep that from happening - like the lockout after 3 bad tries - which is what you experienced. It's why I'm moving to the e-mail address login, but I want to make sure folks don't get locked out before I make it official.

So far we are ahead of these people - but I want to stay ahead and not play catch up. This most recent flare up seems to be affecting many boards (not just phpBB, but vBulletin, SMF, and others as well).

Here is a hint to make the new strong password requirement a little easier to remember. Pick 2 words like "Moose" and "Crossing". Seperate them with a special character (!@#$%^&*-=+_) and tack a year on the beginning or end so you end up with something like:

19Moose#Crossing70

That meets the new password requirements and is much harder for hackers to guess. You'll notice I split the year on the front and end... but you can do anything. Just a hint on how to create a strong password that isn't TOO hard to remember.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT USE THE PASSWORD LISTED ABOVE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR ACCOUNT BROKEN IN TO!
