Gimp is the open source counterpart to Photoshop. It works really well and is free.

I think the issue with Picasa is that when you edit something it doesn't REALLY edit it (the original is still there)... Once doing a crop, try saving the picture to your desktop and uploading that instead. I never bothered to upload a generic set or anything to the Gallery. Now if someone with some artistic talent wants to design some Arlo related avatars that we could use, I'd be more than happy to add them... Things like maybe a pickle, giant clam, moose, VW microbus, etc... Just save them in JPG format and e-mail them to me. Be sure that they are 90x90 pixels.

PS: Love that the new style seems to be encouraging folks to spruce things up! :

Larry - I know blue is better... I've been True Blue all my life... :)

I like that idea, Dave! I call dibs on anything showing a garbage dump with a "CLOSED ON THANKSGIVING" sign.

Alrighty then......with the help of my fellow blunderites, I too now possess an Avatar following years of desperation and quiet solitude as a faceless pundit of pickles and clams and things with strings...... Go Gimp 8)

This is an Arlo avatar. You can have it.

Edited to say: His chest is actually underneath it.

It's the opposite here in OZ. The right is blue and the left is red!

Thanks, Louise, for that GIMP reference, but I didn't want to choke my computer with yet another program. Anyway, I figured out how to crop pictures in Adobe Photoshop, so my first attempt at an avatar is the now non-existent Amtrak station sign for Ocala, FL that was taken down about a year ago. The train no longer stops here, but the Amtrak bus does.
