Those who are currently within a few hours of NYC are strongly encouraged to see Slava's Snowshow at the Union Theater til mid-October. Even worth an overnight nearby. Slava is a renowned Russian clown (and for all those clown-haters -let's not go there now- this is the anthithisis of standard clown stuff) whose absurd, existential, joyous, unifying, magical performance "event" is admired worldwide. We caught it in Paris a few years ago and feel lucky to have seen it again. Find out more at www.snowshowusa.com. If you are in another region of the US (it was in Chicago earlier) or another country, DO NOT MISS this if it comes around. It has special appeal for Blunderites. Lots of surprises, gut-busting pranks and pathos. NOT for kids under 10 or so, or people sensitive to noise, light and surprises. Slava is the president of the Academy of Fools and has led a peace caravan throughout Eastern and Western Europe, attracting clowns. He had performed to defy occasions of hopelessness in Russia and elsewhere. One can understand the transformative, humanitarian nature of his art in the midst of the finale (I won't give it away), especially when the performers silently observe the deleriously delighted and fully engaged audience. It's one of those "moments" Arlo speaks of. And yes, there's snow. Lots of it.

The schedule at Ticketmaster has performances through December, which means a Blunder to Slava's Snowshow might be do-able during Carnegie weekend, for those able to go. Sounds like fun!

I should also suggest that you get an orchestra ticket-- prefereably center, first 10 rows. It's about $65 top ticket (average for a city performance, low for a "big show" and high for budgets) and worth every penny. Maybe they'll do a two-fer w/ Carnegie!
