Hello, all! I'm new here, and I have a question about the chord notation in Gabriel's Mother's Highway Ballad #16 Blues. Granted, I'm a bit of a guitar neophyte, but my husband is a bit more knowlegeable and even he's stumped by this. I'll be really embarrassed if it's something seriously beginner level that we've just both managed to miss

Anyway, in the copy of the chord progression here on arlo.net, and everywhere else I've found it on the internet, there are a bunch of chord definitions at the beginning that look like this: {define: Bb 1 -1 3 3 3 1 -1}. Our questions are, what is meant by -1? And, why are there seven numbers there instead of six?

Thank you!
-Tara

Seems like you waited awhile for a reply unless you got it somewhere else. I was browsing around the subjects and found the message. From the numbers I guess your looking at tablature. I don't know 'tab' but my guess on the minus 1 (-1) is that it signifies "hammer" or finger off. Your husband may be familiar with this term. I play blues a lot and hammer on and off is used quite a bit. I hope this helps or you have got your answer already.
