Mickey Mouse War, is in full swing here at my house, I don't mind one ever not and then but for some reason there seems to be hundreds this year.

This is day three of the battle, I have three mouse traps set but no mice yet, what makes the best bait?

I have found about five nests which I have cleared out, disposed of all the junk around the house and cleaned the drawers, but the little SOB's have gone behind me and rebuilt at least one of their nest. The papers they are using are very old family records and I really want them out.

problem, I have a dog which sleeps indoors and a cat that comes over from time to time, so I think poison is out, but as it's 4am and I am still up because of these fine fellows, I am ready for any helpful hints.

So much for being a peace loving hippie. Does anyone know of anything that mice hate, maybe moth balls or something?

It may drive you out, too (it would me), but I've read that if you can get big-cat dung from a zoo, that will scare off the little buggers. Haven't (thank goodness) needed to try it myself, so I don't know if it really works or if someone just thought it sounded like it would. Good luck with the family papers; that's serious!

Nathen, we had an old house and the mice just LOVED it. I have heard that peanut butter is good bait, maybe on bread--but my mice always seemed to get the bait without tripping the trap. I'd make friends with that occasional cat for a couple of weeks! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15> I have a cat who's a really good mouser. (Bought her when we lived in the old house!) She'd probably like the challenge--can you send a cat parcel post?

Peanut butter and cheese. And if that doesn't work, I might suggest some sauted prawns with a hint of shallots and garlic in reduction sauce of butter , first pressed virgin olive oil and a young and fruity pinot noir.

You need a full time resident female cat and then you can just let nature take care of its own.

Recruit Becky and Nikki,
whittle the ends of them walking sticks to a needle sharp point,
suit up in Rambo gear,
prepare for battle!

Mickey & Minnie have a motto:
"Hide out in Nathen's house, 'til we outnumber 'em!"

You could ask Dubya to include mice in his axis of evil......but then your house might get bombed. Life is full of trade offs.

the bait was taken from all five traps, next time peanut butter, but this begs the question, how is it that mice know what a mouse trap is? How do they know how to get the bait and not set off the trap, I pick the damn thing up and it goes BANG, good grief, is my IQ really less then that of a mouse?

... if that is the case, you're on a par with Dubya!

I don't know how much you have in the way of family archives that you want to protect, but if it's something that could be stored in metal containers - strongbox type, maybe - you wouldn't have to worry so much bout the mice eating your history! (Somehow, though, I have a feeling the volume of paper would make this solution prohibitive.)

Also... maybe there is a place in your area where mice would not pose such a problem... a distant shed or something... perhaps a trail of chees-its to the shed will lure the mice away... then feed them over there for a while, so they get used to staying there...

OR... call HomerJ, and arrange for the nuclear device!

both cheese and peanutbutter work well, the trick is the amount you use. you need to use very little because otherwise they manage to get it without tripping the trap. you gotta get those suckers in real close and personal like to catch them. although, larry's idea has merit.. . good luck!

The problem as I see it, is to understand why these mice want to be at my house, I can only blame Nikki for keeping her rabbits outside my window, maybe the pellets are excellent mouse food. I eat over at Becky's house so I have zero food in the house. Yes, I do have tons of papers and other items dating back over 100 years, most are inside cabinets or in drawers, but for some reason, old, paper seems to make better nest then new paper does.
This all started when I found my book Illusions to have been half eaten, the cheap romance novels were not touched, perhaps too spicy, also old text books from the early teens were left along, perhaps too dry, but now old paper, certificates and such are just right, Maybe, I am dealing with Goldilocks and the seven mice.

Have reduced the amount of bait and I hope to soon be posting body counts, if not, then it will be kitty time.

You do have a house full of intellegent mice that also exhibit good taste. Good luck!

Snap, Bang, Boom, having gained insight from the blunder crowd, the traps were baited with tiny wee bits of cheese, four mice fell into the traps and lost their lives. It is my hope that this will allow the other mice to see the error of their ways, and they will exit the building.

I would have prefered that the little fellows could have been traped in a more friendly fashion, but even while I regret having had to kill them, I rejoice to know the bastards are no longer feeding on my papers.
