A few days after the Oklahoma City bombing, I was looking at the picture of little Baylee Almond in the arms of a fireman. I picked up a piece of paper and wrote this song. This is the first song I've ever written, and if this is what it takes to wake up the whichever side of my brain that is creative, then I hope I never write another one. I did write a little blues song about an area I used to work in a papermill, but it's just a silly little thing. If you've never worked in a paper mill you probably wouldn't understand it.

For the kids who died in Oklahoma,
For the kids whose lives were lost so soon,
You will never, never be alone,
Because God has promised you a home.

All your hurt and sufferering is over,
No more tears, nor crying will be heard,
Only love and singing are in Heaven,
And love and mercy of God.

Up in Heaven they say the streets are gold,
But I know there's red clay up there too,
For when the Lord called you to his home,
He took some of Oklahoma too.

He took some of Oklahoma from my heart.

This youtube video is me playing the last verse on harmonica:
