Arlo, Sarah Lee, Abe & Johnny did a great show, to a packed house, at Van Duzer Auditorium, Humboldt State University, last night. It was pitch black, in the audience.. and, at 1st reading of my set list notes, they sang 3 songs, on top of each other, and several in Urdu, Swahili, or Serbo-Croatian.I'll decipher my scribbles, in the morn, & post here.
Highlight, for me, was a 15 min talk, w/ Sarah Lee. after the show... what a sweet, sharp, talented young woman, she is!!! I 'm now the proud owner, of a long sleeve t-shirt, with Sarah Lee's picture, from her CD cover, set in a Sheriff's badge, designed by the talented Ceashel, on the left side, is "Bumper" in script, & under that, Sarah wrote "Sarah'N Diputy" w/ her loopy little daisy, attached, I'm happy! heehee, more tomorrow!

That must have taken them a heck of a lot of practice, singing three different songs at the same time. Wow. Amazing. And in three different languages, at that! What powers of concentration! What remarkable abilities! And I bet they were all singing in different keys, too. Wow. Those Guthries. They sure are a talented lot... <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif" width=15 height=15>

"The death of what's dead, is the birth of what's living"
Arlo, Wake Up Dead

The next morning, after the show, I drove home to Ukiah, 150 miles south of Arcata, Sunlight filtered softly thru fog shrouded redwood trees on the banks of the Eel River.
Arlo was singing. thru the speakers....
i cried a little, as some psychic soft luggage left me. But, within the 1st seven tracks, of "Mystic Journey" I was smiling, thru the tears and the "Blunderite High" had a new, deeper meaning, for me...
I don't know, whether the "Doors of Heaven" are open, or closed now, I'm not in touch, with that, but, I do know, some angels live their lives among us, cleverly disguised as "Guthries"

"Hey, I came to the City of Angels, found an angel"
Johnny Irion,
yea, you did, Johnny, a whole family of em, even....
& Im "Sarah "N Dipitously" grateful, that, in my way, I have, too...

set list, soon....

Bumper, can't get your post off my mind. Stuck there all yesterday and made my day. Likely to make today as well. Isn't it awesome that there are people like the Guthries who make the kind of music that touches your soul like that???

yes, it sure is, Anna...I've been kinda busy, but will continue to decipher my setlist notes... I'm happy to pass along the "Guthrie contact high" A good friend of mine is going to go see the Guthries, in Madison, Wisc, on Feb 23rd. She's heard of Arlo, even knows "Alice's Restaurant"... I explained to her, how much deeper a Guthrie concert is, than what she's aware of. I see it, as a game of "Tag, you're it" Telling people, who are receptive, what an uplifting experience it is to hear Arlo, Sarah Lee, Abe & Johnny, live!
And, while I know everyone comes away, from an experience, with something different, it seems antidotes, to war, revenge & and hatred, are real important, now, and, I'm happy to tell others, what the show, meant to me...

I was talking recently with an old friend who used to come along with my family back in the 70's to see Pete and Arlo in concert. She was recalling that one of the best things about the shows was how much my dad enjoyed them --joy is contagious.
So, Hey Everyone, Bumper infected me! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>
