It was a cold day in Detroit;my wife Diana and I had spent the day cleaning the gutters;then I put tarps over the flowers;I put up a squirrel house on one of our trees;then went up in the attic for our winter clothes. All day long we thought about the concert at Orchestra hall at 7pm. We had seen Arlo before at the magic bag in Ferndale; 2 years ago.He was with his son at the time and they were great. We stayed afterwards and talked and got autographs and photo's.Our memories all day were about that night and how beautiful a person Arlo is to his fans. .......We wondered how he would be with the symhpony. We knew that we would be in for something special. We live in Taylor;by the airport;so we left for the concert at 6pm. We were lucky enough to get a parking meter right out front. We were escorted to our seats row two..center..just to the left of Arlo guitars. The orchestra came out and tuned up and then john the conductor came out.I said to Diana"If he's the conductor, where's the engineer?" (Me being an old railroad man myself) Not that old I just turned 50. Then Arlo walked out dressed in black. He got a warm welcome from all of us.He was his humorous story teller self.We loved him. Diana and I especially held hands as I sang along with him when he did Elvis' tune Falling in Love. Last train to glory, this land is your land. There was a 20 minute break; and then we were back in Heaven again for awhile. Too soon it was all over;but with applause Arlo came back out. Then he thanked us all and was gone.Diana said;"ok;let's go;because Arlo won't come back out to talk or sign like at the clubs." I said,"Trust me;and then he came back out.He sat on the stage and started signing for fans new and old. Then a lady from the theatre asked us all to move to the front lobby so Arlo could sit down.We made our way around and met the crowd at the lobby by the table where jessica was selling the cd's and shirt's and book's.I had purchased a book for myself and a shirt for Di during the break. Then Arlo led by security was led to the table;where he signed and signed.Di and I waited until we were the 2nd couple from the end.We didn't want to push;we just watched and both said"how many entertainers today do this for the fans?" None except Arlo Guthrie. We got the mooses came walking book signed. We chatted and said our goodbye.I said "Arlo we Love you" and he said goodbye. ...People go to see This great legend. This real human being who cares for people and the planet. It will be an experience you will never forget.Trust me you'll love it.........Love/Peace...Art Paterson

Great report! Image Maybe someone else will have a list of all the songs he did. I bet he wore his black tux during the show. What did he wear after the show? Just curious! I know you had a great time! I've seen him with the Symphony 3 times, Cary NC in 99 & 2 nites of show in Wilmington, DE in 99 & it is great. Not syrupy either! Image

Arlo is a sweet guy & I am proud to call him my folksinger, friend & the brother I never had & a beautiful human being. He is one of the few stars who isn't on a star trip & is nice to the little people & has become friends with them. In fact he's just a regular person just like us & that's what I love about him. Image

Hope he'll bring the Symphony show to VA sometime. Image

But nice reporting! I'll domy Kewswick report either late Sunday nite or sometime Mon. (Gotta hurry home on Sun to go to a 4 pm church Thanksgiving Dinner).

Thanks for the great and touching report, Art. It's a wonderful thing to see Arlo in concert, and then to get to meet him afterwards is a truly sweet moment.

We'll be thinking of you at the Keswick Theatre tomorrow night.
