In Smithsonian Magazine's article on the 10 best small towns in America they listed Great Barrington, MA as #1. There were several references to "hometown boy Arlo Guthrie": Alice, the Historic Garbage Trail Walk, and the former Trinity Church now Guthrie Center. They finished with - Arlo got it right. Sounds like a great place to live.

Hi Joan...oh if you can get to Stockbridge and the surroundings, it's a little slice of heaven. 'Specially in the fall. I live about 100 miles away and I go when I can. Hope to move there someday. Would be nice. Like the great Jim Croce sang "New York's not my home!"! Nancy

Thanks Nancy. I've thoroughly enjoyed my few trips to the east coast. The green spaces seem huge for the relatively dense population there. Here we have to drive hours to get to where there is fall color and I understand it is rather pale in comparison to what you folks enjoy. Last summer I fell in love with Rhode Island and can't wait to go back and explore more.

Great Barrington and the surrounding area were beautiful. I was lucky enough to be able to go to the last night of his Revival concerts this May, and then attend his meditation session the next morning. I would love to go back for Thanksgiving at the Church this fall!! I am sure it is an absolutely breathtaking place when those leaves change over.
