August 31, 2019 - Provincetown, MA

We’ve been here for a few days on the end of the Cape. Tonight Abe & I get to do a gig in Truro at The Payonet just down the road.

Yesterday because of the holiday long weekend P-town was filled with locals and visitors parading through the streets. It was a carnival atmosphere as one would imagine. We had a great time trying to take it all in. And we met up with my old friend, Alice and got caught up over dinner.

Long before most people were awake I was out with my camera. There are creatures everywhere - animals and humans. Marti rented a bike to go visiting her favorite places (she grew up nearby) but the competition for space on the street was limited. So it’s been parked outside our room over looking the tidal pools.

A local red fox was out for a morning walk. Not a great picture but you get the idea. This is the last post of Summer 2019. Next we begin our Fall announcements and notices. It's been a great summer for the most part. Now we just have to get through the latest weather related disaster looming on the horizon ...

Nice get!

I saw a hawk in the sky,,,yesterday I think, the sun was behind him* at just the right angle that it illuminated the beautiful patterns in his feathers.

Epic!

* I say “him” but I don’t really know whether the hawk was a him or a her.

I just tend to default affectionately to “him” as opposed to “it”. Even for a grasshopper!

It looks like he is cautiously approaching a tasty morsel.
(And I am not referring to you as that tasty morsel) :)

Tasty maybe at times, but hardly a morsel.

Today I saw another hawk soaring! It was as large as a buzzard soaring.

<3

It is funny (I guess) In the UK, what in the US is recognized generally as a hawk, is called a buzzard in the UK.

I think Buzzard though is a great default name (?) for the Turkey Vulture. Quite fitting and majestic.

That picture would make a nice garden flag. Not to reduce him to a garden flag or anything, but no words. He would just be there to greet you.

Actually I saw another hawk this morning, he was having a bit of breakfast, the bluejays were hollering at him, even though I am pretty sure it was a mouse he was having for breakfast.

Even though I use a have a heart trap and release mice, and don’t want to kill them, I understand this happens.
