So, they put on a very nice commercial for their product using a version of "This Land is Your Land." Can anyone tell me if the Woody Guthrie Estate got anything for this, or is the song now considered part of the "public domain."

I hope they get paid for that. There was one from North Face a month or so ago, I don't know if you saw.

According to my sister who does all this stuff, the song is not in the public domain - yet. Which probably means they paid to use the song, and it was approved (the concept). I actually saw it because I was watching the game. I thought it was pretty good too - The idea I got out of it was that (aside from obvious Jeep) was that the this world belongs to us all, and it's a pretty good looking world (when we're not screwing it up). An American concept that is extending around the world... Now, maybe that was just me, but that's what came to my mind. adg

Thanks, ADG. I thought it was very well done, too. One of the better ads of the day in terms of its optimism and message. I don't know whose arangement this was and who was singing, but it came off great.
