I'm not so sure he was left of center. From what I read, he was reading/studying many things including Mein Kampf as well as Communist Manifesto and was having extreme bouts of paranoia and mistrust. Perhaps its fairer to say he was searching for something in a philosophy of life and this was part of the path that he took, as terrible as most of us think it is. This sounds hauntingly familiar to what happened here in Pittsburgh almost 2 years ago by a guy named Richard Poplawski who killed 3 Pittsburgh cops with an AK47 as his mother opened the front door to speak with them. No discourse, nothing. He just offed 2 of them as they stood on the porch when she opened the door and another who was out on the street who made an attempt to rescue them. He too was also 22 years old and was supposedly having, what sounds like to me, a difficult time in the same way as this kid. Even some of the materials mentioned that he was reading are the same. Today was my birthday, ( we were joking around a few years ago about my dad's 54 Corvette and - due to a stormy January day much like today - having some difficluty getting to the hospital in time for my delivery, and that was fun sharing that with you all)
anyway , I spend much of today contemplating the issue of public service, the payoff vs the fulfillment.
