some people talk and work things out to preserve a friendship. some people cut and run and let the frienship die. some people do nothing, probably because that's about what the friendship was...nothing. to each their own...

Don't even get me started. I think they're "good people" too, but apparently the feeling isn't mutual and I think a huge, gigantic double standard applied there. To be totally honest, bumper, I think you applied that double standard in their favor, too. Rudeness was OK when it came from the bombastic Zowie, but not from anyone who didn't happen to agree with him, for instance. As far as I'm concerned, the whole "don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out" thing applies here bigtime, so no, I don't miss anyone who doesn't want to be here. And if people get a little irritated with your idea of selective obliviosity it's because it might just be a little more selective than you think it is. Now, Larry..Larry is truly oblivious. It's a beautiful thing, but not easy to accomplish.

You are right of course Arnie; thinking is over rated.
Hockey legend Gordie Howe, with whom I share not only the love of hockey with, but a birthday as well (different years of course), summed it all up very well when he was asked some years back by some reporter "Gordie, why is it that when you play hockey, you wear a protective cup, but you don't wear a helmet?" to which Gordie replied " Well, you can get other people to do your thinking for you".

To borrow a quote from an old friend ...

If I had a brain, I'd be dangerous.

Still and all, Larry remains the champeen in this category. That's the second time this week he's made me laugh out loud. (Thanks. I needed that.)

*aye Muffy: My father in law used to say (never to me. I bought him beer) if you had a brain, you'd walk backwards...Usually directed at my mother-in-law....Or someone who didn't buy him beer......

Selectively non-oblivious/>>>>>>>>piece<<<<<<

i just saw your post, Pat, I accept all you said... and , true, sometimes my selective obliv, is very selective, and sometimes, my standards are double...triple, quadrupple, even, another case of terminal humanity, i guess. I have chosen to remain a regular here, to me, the folks here, are worth it> & I'd miss our friendship & banter, if I were to leave. When I disagree & feel it's worth expressing myself, I'll make my feelings known, all I can do, is promise to be....me!

I'm glad you stayed and I'm sorry they didn't stay to fight..er..discuss it out. I just wanted to make the point that sometimes people just more or less say they're being nicer and that just gets accepted as fact. It ain't necessarily true.

It's hard to apply even standards, because if we know one person better than another we might be more successful in interpreting what they're saying and seeing past the heat of the moment or whatever. But I did want to point out how I felt about some of what went on at the time just for the record.

I understand, Pat. I always feel constrained, in communicating, on-line. I'm a visual person, i read & "transmit" as I speak.
W/ those dimensions absent, "the texture of context" gets lost, I "sound" in posts, much more serious, than I am, I'm working on "modulating" that, it's coming along,, you are an example of how to do that, thanks for doing that!
